Tokenized Stocks Cross 101 Million USD On-Chain and Solana and Ethereum Hold 92 Percent of It: What the xStocks Milestone Means for DeFi

Tokenized stocks have quietly crossed a milestone that DeFi watchers can no longer ignore: more than 101 million USD in xStocks assets are now circulating on-chain, and nearly all of that value has settled on just two networks — Solana and Ethereum.

According to DeFi data reported Tuesday, Solana and Ethereum together hold about 92 percent of the 101 million USD in xStocks deposits, a concentration that says as much about where tokenized-equity liquidity is forming as it does about the assets themselves.

What xStocks Actually Are

xStocks are tokenized versions of traditional equities and exchange-traded funds — price-tracking digital tokens that let crypto users gain exposure to stocks like Apple or Nvidia, or index ETFs, directly from a crypto wallet. Crucially, they are not IOUs on a closed platform: they are on-chain assets that move through decentralized venues, can be used as collateral in some protocols, and trade around the clock in crypto rails rather than being confined to stock-market hours.

The attraction runs in both directions. Crypto-native traders get one-click equity exposure without leaving their wallets or converting to fiat. And traditional finance gets a preview of what its products look like when they are rebuilt as programmable tokens — the same thesis driving the broader real-world asset push in DeFi.

Why Solana and Ethereum Dominate

The 92 percent combined share reported this week breaks down along predictable lines. Ethereum remains the settlement layer of choice for institutional-grade tokenization — the deepest liquidity, the most battle-tested infrastructure, and the home of most existing real-world asset issuance. Solana, meanwhile, has carved out the speed-and-cost niche: its fast, cheap transactions make it a natural fit for the trading-heavy behavior that tokenized equities encourage.

That duopoly leaves every other chain fighting for scraps of the remaining 8 percent — a familiar pattern in DeFi, where network effects around liquidity tend to consolidate rather than spread. For protocols on smaller chains hoping to court tokenized stocks, the xStocks numbers are a sobering benchmark: issuers and market makers are voting with their feet, and they are voting for the two incumbents.

Tokenized Stocks vs. Tokenized Funds

The xStocks milestone lands amid a broader wave of traditional assets moving on-chain. Tokenized money-market funds have already grown into a multi-billion-dollar corner of DeFi, and Wall Street’s oldest institutions have begun moving tokenized treasuries and repo instruments over public blockchains. What makes the equity slice interesting is its audience: tokenized treasuries are bought by institutions parking cash, while tokenized stocks are bought by traders taking risk — a completely different user profile that stretches what DeFi infrastructure is used for.

Equities are also a harder technical and legal lift than funds. Stock tokens need to track underlying market prices across venues, handle dividends and corporate actions, and satisfy the securities rules of whatever jurisdictions they touch. The fact that more than 101 million USD in xStocks is live and trading suggests those problems are being solved well enough for real money to trust the rails.

What This Means for DeFi Users

If you already hold crypto on Ethereum or Solana, the practical significance is straightforward: your wallet is gradually becoming a brokerage account. Exposure to global equities, settled in minutes, without a bank in the loop, is exactly the use case DeFi promised during the infrastructure years — and it is now live with nine figures of assets backing it.

The risks have not disappeared. Tokenized stocks depend on the issuer’s custody of the underlying shares, on the oracle infrastructure that keeps token prices honest, and on regulatory tolerance that could shift with a change in enforcement mood. Nine figures is real money, but it is still small next to the equities markets being tokenized — this is early, not finished.

The Number to Watch

The 101 million USD figure matters less as an endpoint than as a trajectory marker. If Solana and Ethereum keep absorbing the overwhelming majority of new tokenized-equity deposits, the duopoly hardens; if a credible challenger starts taking share, the map redraws. Either way, the next milestone number will tell us whether tokenized stocks are a niche curiosity or the beginning of DeFi’s merger with the stock market itself.

  1. mid-cap volume comparison is fair but every rails market starts as a rounding error. 92 percent on two chains is liquidity picking its winners early

  2. 101M sounds big until you remember etf desks move that before lunch. but thats the whole point, we are still early on tokenized stocks

    1. the 92% sol+eth split is the real story imo. every other chain fighting over the remaining 8% says liquidity begets liquidity

      1. same two chains win every liquidity category now. at some point the other L1s should stop pitching rwa decks and just accept the users left

        1. the 8 percent bucket gets one decent app and the split moves five points overnight. decks are cheap, order books are not

          1. one decent app moved the split five points before and backfills take months. the 8 percent bucket is a patience contest nobody wins

          2. patience contest is generous. the last L1 that tried bought the liquidity with incentives and still lost the apps within months

          3. one app moving the split five points is exactly why nobody leaves sol or eth. backfilling that liquidity costs more than the users are worth

          4. the eight percent bucket is roughly eight million dollars of flow. you cannot fund a bd team on that, the l1 deck war is purely reputational

        2. the other L1s arent pitching users, theyre pitching treasury committees. decks keep working on people who never ship anything

  3. 92 percent on two chains tells you liquidity follows the apps, not the press releases. solana quietly eating this segment

    1. liquidity follows the apps and the apps chose sol and eth. every other chain issuing rwa press releases is fighting over 8 percent of 101m

  4. trading nvda exposure at 3am straight from a wallet never gets old. the 24/7 part is so underrated vs being stuck in stock market hours

    1. midnightcandle_

until the spread bites you at 3am. learned that one the expensive way, off hours liquidity on these things is thin

      1. the 3am spread tax is real, paid it once on an etf pair and never again. limit orders or nothing in the dead hours

  5. trading nvda onchain at 2am is genuinely fun until you remember us market makers nap half the day. still here for it

  6. 92 percent on two chains sounds dominant until you remember the whole market is 101 million. One mid-cap stock’s daily volume eats that before lunch.

  7. 101m before the first real custody dispute is my favorite part of the milestone. the number gets loud the first time a tokenized equity halts for a corporate action and reopens wrong

    1. dividend handling is the sleeper issue. does the token holder get the payout automatically or does someone manually credit it. first botched stock split answers that real quick

      1. read the xstock docs, dividend goes through the issuer redemption flow not the token itself. so no automatic payout, you have to redeem through the wrapper. exactly the kind of fine print that bites people at 101M scale

        1. manual redemption for dividends at 101m scale is a support nightmare. first corporate action forces an automated flow or the product stalls

        2. manual dividend redemption is fine at 101m and impossible at 1b. first corporate action stress test decides whether this segment scales or stalls

    2. first halt is going to be a masterclass in who actually holds the claim. the token keeps trading, the lawyer letter goes somewhere else entirely

  8. the 24/7 angle matters most for asia session traders. nvda xstocks volume during us off hours is the chart that proves the thesis once numbers get published
