Six days, six login rewards, and now a marketplace. On October 15, the official GUNZ account reported that Veteran’s Crest items from the battle royale Off The Grid are already trading on OpenSea — less than 24 hours after the collection event closed.
The speed itself is the story. Traditional live-service games lock login rewards to player accounts forever. Off The Grid developer Gunzilla Games let players walk their rewards straight out the door and onto the open market. That design choice just produced a real-world test of what in-game rewards are actually worth when they become sellable NFTs.
How the Veteran’s Crest Drop Worked
The event was simple and strict. One Crest piece was released each day for six days, with October 14 as the final day to log in and claim. Players who showed up on all six days received the complete six-piece set and a confetti effect as a badge of honor. Players who missed even a single day did not complete the set. No second chances, no makeup days.
Gunzilla tied the drop to the game’s two-year anniversary. “Six days, six pieces, and a trail of confetti for everyone who never missed one,” the studio wrote. “This is what two years looks like.”
Real Trading, Zero Announced Numbers
Here is where it gets interesting for anyone following NFT markets: the day after the event wrapped, the official GUNZ account confirmed the items were changing hands on OpenSea. But neither Gunzilla nor the GUNZ account shared sales volume, floor prices, or how many players completed the set.
That silence matters. Secondary trading within a day proves demand exists, but without volume data, nobody outside the marketplace can yet say whether Crest pieces are changing hands for meaningful amounts or pocket change. Early listings after free-to-claim drops often overprice, then settle hard.
The GUNZ Chain Makes Rewards Portable
The mechanics behind the drop explain why trading was possible at all. Off The Grid, which entered early access on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on October 8, 2024, includes an optional blockchain layer called GUNZ, the chain Gunzilla built for the game. Players can turn weapon skins, outfits and other items into tradable assets on that chain — though the studio has always insisted the layer is optional, and players can ignore the marketplace entirely and just play the shooter.
Normally, tradable items come from HEX loot boxes found during matches: players must survive and successfully extract with a HEX before its contents can be converted. The Veteran’s Crest pieces skipped that gauntlet entirely. The only requirement was the login streak — which is exactly why a large supply of them now exists and why some holders are selling.
Why a Big-Studio Shooter Doing NFTs Quietly Matters
Off The Grid sits in a strange position. Directed by filmmaker Neill Blomkamp with author Richard K. Morgan among its writers, it is one of the few major free-to-play shooters from an established studio — Gunzilla is based in Germany — to ship a live NFT marketplace to console and PC players at once.
Most publishers abandoned public NFT plans after the 2022 backlash. Gunzilla instead buried the feature as an opt-in layer and kept shipping content. The Veteran’s Crest event shows the strategy in action: a normal-looking anniversary reward event that quietly ends with assets on OpenSea.
What This Means For You
If you collected the full set, think before you list. The supply of completed Crest sets is limited by the six-day streak requirement, but the demand side is completely unproven — no volume data has been published, and free-to-claim items face heavy early selling pressure. If you are a buyer, treat early prices with skepticism until real sales history builds. And if you are an NFT market watcher, this drop is a cleaner experiment than most: fixed supply, clear scarcity mechanics, and instant secondary liquidity on the biggest marketplace in the space.
The Verdict
Veteran’s Crest trading on OpenSea within a day of the event’s close is a small event with a large implication: in-game rewards that players genuinely own — and can sell — are quietly becoming a working feature of a major console and PC shooter. Gunzilla has not proven the model is profitable for players yet, and the missing volume data keeps the celebration muted.
But two years into early access, Off The Grid has done something most of the industry said it would never do: make NFT ownership feel like a normal part of playing a video game.

missed day 4 of the login event so no full Crest set for me. watching other people flip theirs on OpenSea hurts ngl
day 4 gang lol, same here. at least the confetti people cant flex forever, the floor will decide
day 4 gang checking in, at least watching the floor from the sidelines is free lol
day 4 was the one where the login servers choked for like two hours right. barely squeaked in at 11:58pm, genuinely thought i was gonna end up in your spot
the day 4 choke is why my set exists lol, half the server rage quit and the ones who stayed got the confetti. strictness made the flex
zero announced trading numbers is telling. if the crests were flying off shelves gunzilla would be shouting figures from the rooftops
no numbers day one is standard for a free drop tbh. check the floor monday, gunzilla isnt hiding it they just dont have a settled market to quote yet
it is day one of secondary trading on a free login drop, of course the numbers are quiet. the actual verdict on the crest comes from the opensea floor a week from now, not launch night hype
no floor price, no volume, no completion numbers. ‘confirmed trading on opensea’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting here
^ fr, six days of logins and they cant share one number. gunzilla wants the headline without the receipts
the real test is whether crest pieces sell individually or only as full sets. six separate items means six times the liquidity fragmentation on opensea
fragments both ways tho, day 4 missers like me can finally buy the one missing piece instead of a whole set. floor per piece is our market now
the confetti effect on the full crest is the flex, the set itself is six days of remembering to log in. scarcity by forgetfulness
lol confetti as the flex. wild that a cosmetic particle effect is the status symbol but honestly it tracks, anyone can buy a crest, not everyone logged in six days straight
the confetti is genuinely the flex, you cant buy proof you showed up six days straight. gunzilla accidentally invented proof of attendance
Letting players walk login rewards out the door day one is the bigger story than any market data. Most studios would never risk it.
missed day 4 because of a queue, whole set gone. no makeup days is brutal but that strictness is probably why the crest holds any value
missed day 4 too but because of travel not queues. watching the floor from the sideline gang keeps growing lol. no makeup days made the full set mean something at least
watching crest pieces list above what id have guessed for a login reward. real question is whether the next event rewards walk too or this was a one off
next event rewards walk if this one prints. gunzilla is watching the same floor data, day 1 secondary on a free login drop basically writes their event roadmap for them
The six day strictness is deliberate scarcity design. No makeup days is what makes the full Crest plus confetti effect worth anything on OpenSea a month from now
Letting rewards leave day one only works if the items hold value. The first full Crest set sale on OpenSea is the number I am waiting for.
same wait here. the first complete six piece sale basically sets the ceiling for everyone who grinded all six days, gunzilla quoting zero numbers makes it a blind auction
blind auction is right. the first full set sale sets the number and every fragment seller prices off it after, monday is gonna be a spreadsheet day
queued 40 minutes on day 4 while the login servers choked and my reward is watching the floor from the sideline. the strictness built the flex, ill give them that
