Polygon Open Money Stack Lands on Solana: What Chain-Agnostic Bank Rails Mean for DeFi Payments

Polygon Labs is expanding its Open Money Stack to Solana, giving businesses building on the network a direct bridge between bank accounts, crypto wallets and global payout networks. The move, announced on Oct. 29, follows the stack’s rollout to Tron earlier in October and comes just months after Polygon acquired the licensed US crypto broker and payments app Coinme. For a payments infrastructure that launched as a Polygon-and-Ethereum convenience, Open Money Stack is quickly turning into a chain-agnostic settlement layer, and Solana is the biggest beneficiary so far.

The Update

Open Money Stack is a suite of services that connects traditional bank funding, embedded customer wallets, card and cash funding, and payout rails into a single integration. Until now, the stack was available on Polygon, Ethereum and other Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible networks. The Solana expansion means that for the first time, businesses building on a major non-EVM chain can plug into the same money movement plumbing without stitching together a bank provider, a wallet vendor, a routing service and a payout partner on their own.

Polygon Labs CEO Marc Boiron said the decision was driven by customer demand and stablecoin activity. The numbers back that up: according to Token Terminal data, Solana recorded roughly 5.76 trillion USD in stablecoin transfers between Jan. 1 and Oct. 27 of this year, while Tron handled about 6.94 trillion USD over the same period. Those are the two largest stablecoin settlement networks in the industry, and Polygon now serves both. Solana Foundation chief product officer Vibhu Norby said connecting Solana to bank accounts, wallets and global payout networks allows businesses to deliver stablecoin payments to more customers and markets.

Technical Post-Mortem

The foundation of the expansion is Polygon’s Trails service, which has supported token transfers between Solana and Ethereum-compatible networks since August. Trails functions as a chain-agnostic transfer corridor, and the Open Money Stack expansion layers the full banking toolkit on top of it. A business integrating the stack on Solana gets access to bank, card and cash funding, customer accounts, embedded wallets and payouts through the same interface that EVM projects already use.

That uniformity is the real technical achievement here. Cross-chain payments have historically forced developers into one of two bad options: building separate integrations for every chain they touch, or forcing all users onto a single chain and ignoring activity elsewhere. Boiron said businesses consistently report that their customers and payment activity are already spread across networks, and that they do not want to force a chain choice on users. The stack abstracts that choice away — the business integrates once, and the underlying rails follow the customer.

Governance Impact

Unlike most Polygon ecosystem announcements, this one carries little direct governance weight. Open Money Stack is a product suite operated by Polygon Labs rather than a protocol upgrade requiring a POL token vote. But the strategic direction it signals matters for token holders: Polygon is positioning itself less as a single chain competing head-to-head with Solana and more as infrastructure that monetizes money movement across every major network. If Open Money Stack becomes the default fiat-to-stablecoin gateway on Solana and Tron, Polygon captures value from chains that are, nominally, its fiercest competitors.

The Coinme acquisition reinforces that reading. Owning a licensed US broker gives Polygon regulated on- and off-ramps that pure-play chains cannot easily replicate, and it makes the Open Money Stack a credible option for regulated businesses that need bank connectivity, not just token bridges.

TVL Shifts

Stablecoin transfer volume is the metric to watch here, and the gap between the leaders is instructive. Tron’s 6.94 trillion USD in year-to-date stablecoin transfers and Solana’s 5.76 trillion USD dwarf the settlement activity on most EVM chains, which explains why Polygon pursued those two networks first. Every basis point of that flow that routes through Open Money Stack funding and payout rails is volume that touches Polygon-controlled infrastructure.

For context, the broader market backdrop is calm: bitcoin trades near 81,354 USD and ether near 2,363.82 USD, with SOL changing hands around 102.52 USD. In an environment where speculative froth is subdued, payment and settlement volume is where durable on-chain activity is actually growing — and that is exactly the segment Open Money Stack targets.

Long-Term Prognosis

The bet Polygon is making is that stablecoin payments consolidate onto a small number of high-throughput networks, and that the scarce resource will not be the chain itself but the regulated connectivity between banks and those chains. If that thesis holds, being the neutral middleware between TradFi money movement and Solana, Tron and EVM liquidity is a strong position. Risks remain: competitors including Stripe’s bridge acquisition and Circle’s own APIs are chasing the same stablecoin payment opportunity, and Polygon must keep its rails cheaper and simpler than the alternatives. The Solana expansion will be judged by adoption — how many Solana businesses actually ship bank funding and payouts through the stack in the coming quarters. For now, Polygon has quietly made itself a piece of infrastructure on its rivals’ home turf, and that is a strategy few Layer 1 ecosystems have dared to copy.

  1. polygon building settlement rails for everyones chains is a weird flex when you think about it. the l2 wars crowd keeps missing what boiron is actually doing

  2. Marc Boiron keeps quietly building the payments layer while everyone argues about L2 rankings. The Coinme license plus direct Solana payouts is an actual moat imo

    1. stacked_sats_kay

the tron rollout got ignored too and tron is the bigger stablecoin network, 6.94T this year vs 5.76T for solana. polygon now serves both sides, that is the actual story

      1. 6.94T vs 5.76T and polygon serves both sides. whoever wins the volume war pays them rent either way, smart positioning

  3. Trails running since August is the part everyone missed. Today is the banking toolkit landing on a transfer corridor that already worked

    1. vibhu norby said it plain, stablecoin payouts to more markets. somewhere a SWIFT middleman just felt a disturbance lol

  4. oms going to solana two weeks after tron is the actual story here. polygon is quietly building the settlement layer nobody asked for and im here for it

    1. lars you forgot the part where this is the first non-EVM chain on oms. solana biz no longer stitching together 4 vendors just to move money, thats huge

      1. first non evm chain is the detail. the stitching tax on solana biz dev was real, one integration beats four vendors every time

    2. tron two weeks ago, solana now, both stablecoin superpowers on one toolkit. boiron is playing a completely different game than the l2 crowd

  5. The Coinme acquisition makes a lot more sense now. Licensed broker plus bank rails on Solana is a real payments stack, not another bridged stablecoin demo.
