Hyperliquid, a popular DeFi trading platform, rose this week while most of the crypto market fell after the Binance hack. The reason is a partnership. Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the company that owns the New York Stock Exchange, announced a deal with Trade[XYZ] to bring Hyperliquid-based perpetual futures to U.S. markets, according to 24/7 Wall St.

The Hook: A Rare Green Number in a Red Market
Crypto had a rough week. Bitcoin sits near 77,000 USD and Ethereum is around 2,240 USD, both lower over the past day. Total DeFi value locked also fell sharply after the Binance hack, based on reports from TokenPost and DefiLlama.
Against that backdrop, Hyperliquid’s HYPE token gained ground. 24/7 Wall St. reports it is now within single digits of its all-time high of 97.96 USD, set on September 23, 2026. Reports differ on the exact one-day gain. They put it anywhere from a few percent to a double-digit jump, depending on the time window. What they agree on is the direction: up, while most large coins fell.
On-Chain Evidence: Trading Volume Exploded
The clearest sign of new interest is volume, meaning how much money changed hands. According to the 24/7 Wall St. report, Hyperliquid’s daily trading volume:
- 781.8 million USD — on October 28
- 2.93 billion USD — by the close on October 29
- 3.29 billion USD — the latest reading cited
- 456.4 million to 867.7 million USD — the daily range during the previous week
That is several times the normal pace. The report also says the Bitwise Hyperliquid ETF took in 3.7 million USD on October 29, citing Farside data. That is a small number. It does show traditional investors can now buy exposure through a regular brokerage account.
The Core Conflict: What Is ICE Actually Building?
First, a quick definition. A perpetual future is a bet on where a price is heading. It has no expiry date, so you can hold it as long as you like. Think of a rental that never has to be returned. Traders use these contracts to speculate on crypto, stocks, commodities and currencies.
Per the report, ICE plans a regulated market and clearinghouse for perpetuals tied to those assets. A clearinghouse is the middleman that guarantees both sides of a trade get paid. The plan is pending regulatory approval, so nothing is live yet. Investor Stan Druckenmiller is reportedly involved in the deal.
Trade[XYZ] was Hyperliquid’s largest third-party builder of perpetual markets as of July 2026, according to the same report. Hyperliquid says its existing Trade[XYZ] markets will continue unchanged. The ICE platform would be an added layer on top.
There is a debate about what drove the jump. One popular theory says traders fled Binance for Hyperliquid. The 24/7 Wall St. article itself pushes back. It says the biggest volume surge lined up with the ICE news, and that Binance had halted withdrawals, which makes a mass move of funds harder to explain. The article also contains some timing inconsistencies, so treat the exact sequence with caution.
Market Implications: What This Means For You
The big idea is legitimacy. A major U.S. exchange operator is putting its name behind a product built on DeFi technology. That can pull in bigger and more cautious investors over time. It also adds fuel to a theme already in the news: after a huge hack at a centralized exchange, some traders want venues where they hold their own coins.
The report also links the deal to Hyperliquid’s fee-funded Assistance Fund, which uses trading fees to buy HYPE. More trading means more fees, which could mean more buying. That is the bullish case. It is a theory, not a promise.
Keep the risks in view:
- Regulators have not signed off. The ICE plan could change or be delayed.
- Perpetual futures are risky. They are often used with borrowed money, which can wipe out a position fast.
- Hype fades. A token that jumps on one headline can give the gains back just as quickly.
The Verdict
This is a real milestone for DeFi, but it is an announcement, not a finished product. If you already hold HYPE, watch for regulatory news and for whether trading volume stays high after the excitement cools. If you do not own it, chasing a token near its record high after a one-day surge is how many people get hurt. Never put in money you cannot afford to lose.

everyone hyped about the NYSE connection and nobody is asking why ICE picked a perp DEX instead of just listing CME-style futures like they already do for btc. the answer is they want the order flow hyperliquid actually proved it can handle. that is the real signal here
counterpoint to vtx_miner: ICE going through Trade[XYZ] instead of CME-listed products means they want cash-settled exposure to the HYPE ecosystem itself, not just another btc future. this is them buying distribution into a venue they cannot build. different game entirely
781.8 million on Oct 28 to 3.29 billion two days later is not organic retail interest. somebody big positioned ahead of the announcement and the volume confirms it. still long, but lets not pretend this was a surprise to everyone
Casper the volume could also be arbs hedging HYPE perps against spot on other venues once the spread moved. i watched the tape on the 29th and it looked more like market makers rebalancing than one whale. either way 3x in 48h means the liquidity is real
A clearinghouse for perpetuals with Druckenmiller’s name attached. ICE does not enter markets casually, this reads like a real institutional push.
hype up while everything else bleeds post-hack, thats the ice perps story doing the work. a regulated venue means funds can actually touch it
the clearinghouse is what unlocks it. funds cant touch unregulated perps venues, this is the onramp theyve been waiting for
