TRM Labs Doubles to a 2 Billion Dollar Valuation as AI-Powered Crypto Crime-Fighting Becomes Big Business

TRM Labs, the blockchain intelligence firm that helps governments and banks trace crypto crime, has doubled its valuation to 2 billion dollars in an expansion of its Series C round led by Blockchain Capital — a bet that the business of fighting on-chain crime is growing as fast as the crime itself.

The Hook: Crime-Fighting AI Is Now a 2 Billion Dollar Business

The company announced on Wednesday that an expansion of its Series C round, led by returning investor Blockchain Capital, values it at 2 billion dollars — double its previous mark. TRM did not disclose the size of the new investment, but said its annual recurring revenue has quadrupled over the past three years, according to the announcement.

The round builds on a 70 million dollar Series C in February, also led by Blockchain Capital. Prior to that round, TRM was valued at about 930 million dollars, according to data compiled by Traxcn, and it crossed the 1 billion dollar unicorn threshold in a round that counted Citi Ventures and Galaxy among its investors. Doubling from unicorn to 2 billion dollars in roughly seven months is one of the fastest re-ratings in the blockchain-analytics sector.

On-Chain Evidence: 600 Agencies, 75 Countries, One AI Arms Race

TRM provides blockchain intelligence and investigation software used by more than 600 government agencies and private-sector institutions across 75 countries, the company said. Its AI-powered tools are used to investigate fraud, money laundering, sanctions evasion and other forms of digital crime — the digital equivalent of forensic accounting, tracing stolen or illicit funds across public blockchains where every transaction leaves a permanent trail.

  • Losses are exploding — Digital crime losses reported to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center rose to 21 billion dollars in 2025 from 16 billion dollars in 2024.
  • Criminals are using AI too — TRM said criminal adoption of AI has risen 40% year over year in 2026, citing its own AI-in-Crime Adoption Index.
  • Government demand is real money — About two months ago, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement awarded TRM a roughly 95 million dollar, one-year contract for forensic software and support services for Homeland Security Task Force investigations.

The Core Conflict: A Duopoly Fighting Over the Same Badge

TRM’s rise has not gone unchallenged. Rival Chainalysis went to federal court to challenge the ICE contract’s sole-source award, alleging the agency’s decision was “arbitrary, capricious, and unreasonable.” The dispute underscores how concentrated the blockchain-intelligence market has become: a handful of firms — led by TRM and Chainalysis — effectively supply the analytical backbone for Western law enforcement’s crypto investigations, and every contract is fiercely contested.

There is an irony here that will not be lost on crypto natives. The same transparent blockchains that were supposed to make money impossible to control have spawned a thriving industry of companies whose entire product is watching that money. Every ransomware payout, sanctions evasion and exchange hack leaves on-chain fingerprints — and firms like TRM have turned reading those fingerprints into a business growing fast enough to quadruple revenue in three years.

Market Implications: What This Means for You

For everyday crypto users, stronger blockchain intelligence cuts both ways. It means stolen funds are increasingly recoverable and crime is harder to hide — a genuine credibility boost for an industry seeking institutional acceptance. It also means the pseudonymity many early adopters valued is eroding, as analytics firms and their government clients map wallet clusters, exchange flows and mixer transactions with growing precision.

For investors, the TRM round is a signal that venture money sees compliance and investigation infrastructure — not tokens — as one of the most durable businesses in the crypto economy. Crime does not disappear in bear markets, and neither does the demand to trace it. At the time of writing, Bitcoin trades around $78,500, Ethereum near $2,487, and Solana around $103.5, according to the latest price data.

  1. 930 million to 2 billion in seven months off a 70 million Series C expansion. Blockchain Capital basically paid double for the same cap table

  2. ARR quadrupling in three years explains the re-rating. crime tracing is the one crypto vertical with permanent demand

    1. blockchain capital led the feb 70m round and doubled down again within a year. that says the government contract pipeline is fat

      1. add every exchange settlement deal this year, half the industry now needs a monitoring contract just to keep operating. the pipeline sells itself

  3. every chainalysis competitor doubling valuations while telling everyone privacy coins are dead. the incentives write themselves lol

    1. @ledgermoth_ the irony is TRM gets paid on both ends. banks buy the compliance tool, agencies buy the tracing. privacy coins dying is basically free marketing for their ARR

  4. 930m to 2b in seven months without disclosing the check size. classic markups right before a Series D pitch, see you at 4 billion next spring

  5. Citi Ventures and Galaxy in earlier rounds, now banks are literally investing in the firms that audit their crypto flows. smart hedge honestly
