Bitcoin Holds Near 78,000 USD Ahead of Fed, BOE and BOJ Decisions in Pivotal Central Bank Week

Bitcoin steadied near 78,100 USD on Monday as traders positioned for one of the densest central-bank weeks of the year: the Federal Reserve decides Wednesday, the Bank of England on Thursday, and the Bank of Japan closes the sequence on Friday — all while the U.S. Senate prepares a Tuesday cloture vote on crypto market-structure legislation that could set the sector’s regulatory trajectory for years.

Where prices stand

Bitcoin traded at 78,122 USD on Sept. 14, up 1.7 percent over 24 hours after dipping as low as 76,439 USD earlier in the session. The cryptocurrency reached an intraday high of 78,276 USD but remained below the 80,000 USD level that has rejected several recent advances, a zone analysts have flagged as the lower edge of a heavily watched 80,000-to-83,000 USD resistance range.

The broader market moved with it. Ethereum gained 1.6 percent to 2,523.75 USD, XRP rose 4.5 percent to 1.40 USD, and Filecoin posted the standout move among tracked assets with a 23 percent surge to just over 1 USD during Monday’s rebound.

The Fed: a hike now priced at 87 percent

The Federal Open Market Committee meets Sept. 15-16, with the rate statement due Wednesday afternoon, followed by updated economic projections and Chair Kevin Warsh’s press conference 30 minutes later. The committee enters the meeting with the federal funds target range at 3.50 to 3.75 percent; a quarter-point increase would lift it to 3.75 to 4.00 percent.

Market expectations have shifted dramatically. Reuters reported Monday that interest-rate markets assign an 87 percent probability to a September increase — a stunning reversal from days earlier, when a Reuters poll showed nearly 70 percent of surveyed economists expecting rates to stay on hold. Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan both revised forecasts to predict a 25-basis-point move, with JPMorgan expecting another increase in December and Goldman projecting two reductions during 2027.

August inflation data and higher energy costs drove the repricing. The irony for Bitcoin holders is that a rate hike — normally a headwind for risk assets — has coincided with the price recovering from below 77,000 USD, suggesting markets may have already absorbed the tighter path.

Dots, data and Warsh’s podium

Wednesday’s meeting also produces the updated Summary of Economic Projections, including the dot plot mapping each official’s preferred rate path. The dots do not bind the committee, but they will show whether the inflation surprise has moved the median projection for 2026 and beyond. Warsh’s presser will be parsed for guidance on persistent inflation, labor-market conditions and the trajectory after September.

The data calendar compounds the noise: U.S. retail sales and import prices land Wednesday morning before the statement, initial jobless claims and the Philadelphia Fed manufacturing index arrive Thursday, and industrial production follows Friday. Crypto markets trade continuously through each release, and while price moves around announcements can be measured, timing alone does not prove causation.

Bank of England: hold expected, but hawks circling

The Bank of England announces Thursday with its Bank Rate at 3.75 percent and U.K. inflation running at 2.9 percent against a 2 percent target. Economists surveyed by Reuters generally expect the Monetary Policy Committee to hold, but Goldman Sachs now predicts a quarter-point increase in November, having previously expected a longer wait. Markets have priced roughly 47 basis points of U.K. increases through the end of 2026 — pricing that shifts with trading and guarantees nothing.

Bank of Japan: a 31-year high in play

The Bank of Japan meets Sept. 17-18, targeting an overnight call rate around 1 percent after June’s increase. Analysts cited by the Financial Times expect another 25-basis-point hike to 1.25 percent — which would mark Japan’s highest policy rate in 31 years. The decision arrives Friday. Japanese rate policy has drawn crypto trader attention before: Bitcoin fell roughly 3 percent within hours of an earlier January increase, and the June move to 1 percent also rippled through digital-asset markets, making the BOJ a live event risk for the week’s tail end rather than an afterthought.

The Senate variable

Layered over the central-bank gauntlet is Tuesday’s Senate cloture vote on the CLARITY Act, the market-structure bill that would establish the regulatory split between the SEC and CFTC over digital assets. For crypto specifically, this week may be less about where the Fed lands — a hike is now near-fully priced — and more about whether 78,000 USD holds as a base while regulatory clarity and rate path visibility arrive within 96 hours of each other.

Resistance sits at 80,000 USD and above. Below, the mid-76,000 USD zone that produced Monday’s low is the first support line traders will watch if the week’s events disappoint.

  1. 87 percent hike odds priced and bitcoin just sitting at 78k like its nothing. either the market doesnt believe the pricing or everyone is already positioned

    1. or the hike is fully priced and the actual event is the dot plot. Goldman calling two cuts in 2027 means Wednesday matters less than where Warsh points the terminal rate

  2. filecoin up 23 percent to a buck while everyone stares at the fed. classic small cap relief move on thin volume, careful out there

  3. 80k rejecting multiple advances plus the cloture vote Tuesday, this week is basically a coin flip with extra steps. sizing down is the only sane play

    1. the 80 to 83k resistance zone being called heavy is an understatement, we tapped it four times since August. need the Fed to break it or we range again

  4. Filecoin up 23 percent to a dollar on a Monday and nobody mentions it until halfway down the article. Thin volume or not that move needs watching if 80k breaks
