X has officially launched its U.S. Cashtag Partner Program, connecting financial conversations on the platform directly to brokerage services in the company’s most significant push yet into the trading and payments space.
The program went live with five launch partners: Coinbase, Gemini, and Kraken on the crypto side, alongside Interactive Brokers and Moomoo in traditional finance. When users tap a supported cashtag — the ticker-style symbol prefixed by a dollar sign, such as BTC or COIN — they now see a “Trade” option that redirects them to a participating brokerage to complete the transaction.
Crucially, X is not executing the trades itself. The platform acts as a bridge, sending users to the selected brokerage where account requirements, identity verification, asset availability, and jurisdictional restrictions all apply. That structure keeps X on the regulatory sidelines while shortening the distance between reading market commentary and placing an order.
From smart cashtags to trading links
The rollout builds on the smart cashtag feature X introduced in April for users in the United States and Canada, which added live price charts, asset-specific post feeds, and support for cryptocurrency contract addresses to the ticker experience. Canadian users received a trading link through Wealthsimple at the time, but American users were left without a direct route to trade.
The new partner program closes that gap and expands the model from a single Canadian integration to five American brokerages. Mridul Singhai, X’s product engineering lead, said the feature narrows the distance between a ticker appearing on a timeline and the market linked to it — users can open a live chart, read the conversation around an asset, and choose a partner when they decide to act.
X has not published a complete list of supported tickers, and availability may vary by partner since each brokerage maintains its own product list and eligibility rules. A cashtag may display market information even when a particular user cannot trade that asset through every listed partner.
A meaningful on-ramp for crypto exchanges
For Coinbase, Gemini, and Kraken, the integration represents access to one of the world’s largest real-time financial conversation platforms. Crypto discussion on X drives a substantial share of retail attention, and the Trade button converts that attention into a direct referral funnel.
All three exchanges have been expanding beyond their core crypto businesses. Kraken added 7,000 U.S.-listed stocks for eligible European customers in August alongside its tokenized xStocks offering, and reported 25 billion USD in cumulative volume for the tokenized equities platform in March, including 3.5 billion USD in on-chain transactions across 80,000 on-chain holders. Coinbase has similarly added U.S. stocks and ETFs to its main platform, letting eligible customers manage securities and crypto in one account.
Interactive Brokers brings stocks, options, futures, and currencies into the program, while Moomoo offers equities, options, and crypto through its regulated entities, giving the program coverage across asset classes rather than crypto alone.
Piece of the Everything App
The Cashtag Partner Program is the latest piece of X’s broader Everything App strategy. The platform’s X Money service has already rolled out peer-to-peer transfers, direct deposits, a debit card, and yields on eligible balances, though its payment functions remain separate from the brokerage referral program.
Monique Pintarelli, head of global advertising at X’s parent company, framed the launch as connecting discovery to action. People come to X to see what’s happening and act in real time, she said, and the Cashtag partners make it possible to move from conversation to a brokerage without breaking the moment.
The company has been careful to note that posts, charts, and cashtags do not constitute financial advice or a recommendation to transact — a disclaimer that matters as financial regulators scrutinize social platforms’ role in market activity.
Twitter, as the platform was formerly known, has hosted financial conversation for over a decade, and accounts dedicated to market commentary command some of the highest engagement on the service. Turning that attention into transaction flow — even as referrals rather than in-app execution — gives the company a bridge between advertising and financial services without requiring it to obtain a broker-dealer license itself.
Whether the program expands beyond the five initial partners, or beyond U.S. borders, remains to be seen. For now, the feature is live for American users, and every BTC argument on the timeline now ends one tap away from a trade button.
cashtag to trade button in two taps. my timeline was already a casino, now it takes deposits
tapping on a post and getting bounced straight to Moomoo in two clicks is genuinely dangerous for my impulse control
same, almost aped COIN off a meme post within a minute of seeing the trade button. this feature was designed for people exactly like me lmao
same energy as one-click checkout. the fewer steps between impulse and order, the worse my PnL gets
impulse to order in two taps is a margin call machine. the charts were the five minute cool off period
X staying out of trade execution is the only reason this survived compliance review. Smart structure. The day traders of 1999 could only dream of chart-to-order in one tap.
coinbase, gemini, kraken, interactive brokers, moomoo… and still no way to filter out the cashtag spam bots that come with it. trade button next to a bot farm, great
the bots found the trade button before the humans did lmao. every cashtag thread is 90 percent dm me accounts already
and the dm me bots will stay because engagement is engagement. x moderation has never met a spam wave it could resist
the spam bots are a feature for the engagement metrics honestly. x has zero incentive to filter the accounts inflating cashtag threads while it pitches the everything app
X not executing trades themselves is the smart move. they get the referral funnel and Coinbase carries the compliance baggage
Coinbase carrying the compliance while X keeps the referral funnel is how every fintech partnership story starts. Fine until the first enforcement letter names both logos.
tap a cashtag, get routed to Moomoo. every fintech prediction from 2021 accidentally coming true on the weirdest possible timeline lol
the Coinbase integration alone will print. you know how many people argue about BTC in replies all day
Five partners at launch and Interactive Brokers sitting next to Coinbase is the tell. Musk wants the everything app and TradFi agreed to tag along
Interactive Brokers on the list is the part nobody talks about. brokers that old dont move unless compliance already signed off, that is the real signal here
IBKR showing up means approvals were done months ago. this was plotted while the smart cashtag charts were still shipping
Canadians had the Wealthsimple trading link since April while US users stared at charts for five months. Glad the gap closed but the rollout order was odd.
