Robinhood is preparing to bring crypto perpetual futures to eligible US customers with leverage of up to 10x on Bitcoin and Ether, a product the company’s CEO is billing as “America’s first true perps.” The rollout, announced at the Sept. 29 HOOD Summit, will cover eight assets at launch: BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, ADA, LINK and HYPE.
The contracts will have no expiration date. Bitcoin and Ether contracts will offer leverage of up to 10x, while the other six assets will be capped at 3x. CEO Vlad Tenev said on X that profit and loss will settle every 15 minutes, calling it “a new chapter for US derivatives.” Robinhood gave no specific launch date beyond saying the rollout will take place in the coming months.
Fees, controls and the fine print
Robinhood plans to charge 0.01% per perpetual trade through the end of 2026, with no full fee schedule disclosed beyond that promotional rate. Perpetual futures let traders keep a derivatives position open without a fixed expiry date, provided margin requirements are met, and Robinhood’s US product will let eligible users take long or short positions directly inside its app.
Risk controls listed in the release include stop-loss and take-profit orders, real-time liquidation price monitoring and alerts when positions are at risk. The product will be offered through Robinhood Derivatives, a CFTC-registered futures commission merchant and NFA member, using Bitstamp infrastructure. Robinhood completed its 200 million USD acquisition of the long-running crypto exchange in June 2025.
The Bitstamp connection follows Robinhood’s earlier use of the exchange for perpetual products outside the US. Its European crypto perps were routed through Bitstamp’s perpetual futures exchange with leverage of up to 3x initially, and by July 2026 the company had extended its international derivatives lineup to perpetual contracts tied to gold, silver, crude oil, ETFs and currency pairs, with leverage of up to 10x reported on those European products. The US launch raises the leverage ceiling for BTC and ETH compared with the earlier European crypto offering.
A clearer regulatory path
US regulators created a clearer route for crypto perpetual contracts earlier this year. On May 29, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission approved KalshiEX’s BTCPERP contract, which references Bitcoin’s spot price, as a futures contract. The agency issued a policy statement the same day saying perpetual contracts tied to other asset classes should generally go through case-by-case review under CFTC Regulation 40.3.
CFTC staff separately confirmed on May 29 that certain crypto perpetuals listed on Deribit could be treated as foreign futures when offered through Coinbase Financial Markets under specified conditions. Robinhood did not tie its planned contracts to that specific staff action, but the regulatory groundwork plainly made the product possible.
Weekend stocks and AI agents join the slate
The perps announcement headlined a broader product push. Robinhood is preparing 24/7 weekend trading for a selected group of US stocks and ETFs, expected early next year and subject to regulatory review. The service extends the company’s existing 24 Hour Market, which runs from Sunday 8 p.m. ET through Friday 8 p.m. ET, and Bruce ATS will provide the venue for weekend sessions. Chief Brokerage Officer Steve Quirk summed up the logic: “Breaking news doesn’t wait for an opening bell.”
Starting in October, options trading on selected symbols will run from 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. ET, and eligible margin customers will be able to opt into as much as 4x intraday buying power, up from 2x.
The summit also introduced Robinhood Agents, an in-app system that lets eligible users create AI agents for market research, strategy building and automated trading. More than 150,000 customers have opened agentic trading accounts since the company’s third-party agent service launched in May, with agents now using Robinhood tools nearly 30 million times per day. Users can choose a supported model, open a dedicated agentic account and set trading limits, with manual trade approval on by default and agents restricted to funds in that account. A planned feature called Loops will let users create recurring instructions for agents to execute when preset conditions are met.
Why leverage caps matter for altcoin traders
For altcoin holders, the asset list is the story. SOL, XRP, DOGE, ADA, LINK and HYPE gaining US-listed perpetual exposure, even at 3x, represents a milestone for domestic derivatives access, since American traders have historically been pushed to offshore venues for perps. Competition implications are already visible: offshore heavyweights have long treated US customers as off-limits, and a compliant domestic alternative at 0.01% promotional pricing could siphon volume from gray-market routes.
The risk side is equally clear. Ten-times leverage on an asset that can move 10% in a day leaves little room for error, and the 15-minute P&L settlement cadence means margin calls will arrive fast. Robinhood’s answer is the alert and liquidation-tracking toolset, but the product’s success will depend on how retail users handle leverage they previously could not legally access.
Market context at publication time: Bitcoin traded near 83,942 USD, Ether near 2,698.58 USD and Solana near 119.61 USD on Binance at 12:00 UTC, according to the exchange’s spot price data.
10x on btc and eth but 3x on hype tells you exactly what their risk team thinks of each asset lmao
the 3x hype cap is them telling on themselves lol, one 40 percent day at 10x woulda wiped the book
hype at 3x is still generous for something that went vertical that fast imo
only eight assets but 0.01 percent fees is a shot straight at the offshore overflow. capping everything at 3x keeps the blowups small too
0.01 percent per trade through end of 2026 is basically paying people to try it. bybit and binance wont enjoy this
fees were never why people skipped us perps, the product gap was. 15 minute pnl settlement is the interesting bit
15 min settlement also means margin calls that dont leave you hanging overnight. thats the real edge over offshore venues
0.01 percent fees through year end is basically free. Tenev knows exactly which buttons to press with the degen crowd
3x cap on everything except BTC and ETH kinda kills the fun. imagine getting 3x DOGE perps and calling it a product
americas first true perps is wild rewriting of history, offshore venues ran these for years. still, 15 min PnL settlement inside a regulated US app is new
