Ripple has released another 1 billion XRP from escrow worth roughly 1.49 billion USD, yet the token is holding near 1.49 USD as U.S. spot XRP exchange-traded funds keep attracting money and the price refuses to break the 1.54 USD ceiling that has capped every rally since late September.

The Hook: A 1.49 Billion USD Unlock Meets a Stubborn Ceiling
Onchain Lens reported that Ripple released the one billion tokens from its programmed escrow contracts shortly after 00:00 UTC on October 1. The unlock was executed through four separate transactions involving 400 million, 300 million, 200 million and 100 million XRP, all completed within minutes of each other. Whale Alert independently recorded the 300 million XRP tranche at 00:00:02 UTC, valuing it at approximately 446.6 million USD at the time.
Despite the size of the release, XRP has barely moved. According to CoinGecko data cited by crypto.news, the token was trading in a range of roughly 1.48 USD to 1.50 USD at the latest reading, having oscillated between approximately 1.48 USD and 1.54 USD over the past 24 hours while carrying a market capitalization above 93 billion USD. Buyers have repeatedly defended the 1.46 USD to 1.48 USD area, while every attempt to push through 1.54 USD to 1.60 USD has failed to hold.
On-Chain Evidence: What the Unlock Actually Means
An escrow release does not mean all one billion tokens are being sold. Ripple has historically returned a portion of its monthly allocation to new escrow contracts, while the remainder can stay in company-controlled wallets or be used for business purposes such as partnerships and institutional liquidity. When crypto.news examined the September 1 billion XRP unlock, on-chain data confirmed the release but could not establish how much of it eventually reached public trading venues.
The same caveat applies now. Before the October transaction, XRP was already struggling to sustain moves above 1.50 USD, having dropped from its September 23 high near 1.66 USD. The fresh unlock creates another supply event for traders to monitor, but there is no verified evidence that the entire 1.49 billion USD notional value has been deposited to exchanges for sale.
- 1 billion XRP — unlocked by Ripple across four transactions within minutes after 00:00 UTC on October 1
- Roughly 1.49 billion USD — estimated notional value of the release
- 446.6 million USD — Whale Alert’s valuation of the 300 million XRP tranche
- 93 billion USD+ — XRP market capitalization at the latest reading
The Core Conflict: ETF Demand Versus Stalled Price Action
Institutional demand has continued flowing into U.S. spot XRP ETFs. SoSoValue data shows the products attracted 121.4 million USD during September, bringing cumulative inflows since launch to roughly 1.79 billion USD. Earlier analysis by crypto.news found the funds received 75.59 million USD during the week ending September 25 alone — yet the price kept testing, and failing at, the same resistance region.
Price action has therefore remained muted compared with the size of reported fund inflows. ETF purchases represent only one source of demand, while exchange selling, derivatives positioning, Ripple distributions and profit-taking by existing holders all press on the other side of the ledger. The token’s relative strength index remains above 50, and its Aroon Oscillator stays positive, though momentum has weakened slightly — a technically neutral picture that mirrors the standoff between 1.46 USD support and 1.54 USD resistance.
Adoption news has not moved the needle either. CSD BR, Brazil’s central securities depository, began mirroring BTG Pactual fund records onto the XRP Ledger while retaining the official ownership records — a genuine institutional integration. Flare co-founder Hugo Philion publicly questioned XRP’s limited reaction to the development, calling the drop that followed “lunacy,” though his comment reflects an opinion about market behavior rather than evidence of what the price should do.
Market Implications: Three Things Holders Should Watch
First, how much of the unlocked billion returns to escrow. If Ripple re-locks a large share, the effective new supply shrinks and the unlock becomes a non-event. Second, whether ETF inflows accelerate as XRP presses the 1.54 USD to 1.56 USD zone — sustained institutional buying into resistance is historically how breakouts get built. Third, the XRP Ledger’s LendingProtocolV1_1 amendment, which adds closed-ended vaults and cash-basis accounting, still requires sustained validator consensus before activation, and its approval could add a fundamental catalyst to a technically coiled market.
A decisive weekly close above 1.56 USD would open the path toward the 1.60 USD and 1.66 USD levels from September. Conversely, losing the 1.46 USD to 1.48 USD demand zone on heavy volume would mark the first structural breakdown since the rebound began, and would likely push traders to re-evaluate the entire September recovery.
The Verdict
XRP is caught between persistent institutional accumulation and a supply overhang that is partly real, partly psychological. The September ETF data shows demand exists; the chart shows sellers still control the 1.54 USD area. Until one side breaks, the token remains a range trade — and the October unlock, like the ones before it, is more likely to be absorbed quietly than to decide the outcome.

1.49 billion in unlocks and price is still sitting at 1.49. either the ETF flows are eating all of it or ripple is pacing their sells, no third explanation
its the ETFs, theyve been absorbing every monthly unlock for a while now. at some point the escrow sell pressure just runs out of ammo
1.49B unlock vs etf inflows and we are still pinned under 1.54. the second that ceiling finally breaks there is basically no supply overhead left to fight
the 1.54 ceiling has rejected every push since late september. three failed attempts now, i want a daily close above before getting excited
three rejections and each one shallower than the last. when the fourth push comes the ceiling gives, the etfs just keep slurping every unlock
four transactions, 400 then 300 then 200 then 100 million, all inside a few minutes. ripple runs escrow like a payroll department lol
1B XRP out of escrow, 300M whale tranche at 00:00:02 UTC, and price still under 1.54. supply is undefeated
ETF inflows absorbing the unlock and XRP still flat says something about how much is being sold into that demand.
Honestly the interesting part is the ETFs buying at all with 446M USD worth moving in one block. That is quiet accumulation.
every month its the same unlock post and every month the bagholders say this time its different lol
same energy but this month the 300M whale tranche got absorbed without a single red candle. something actually changed
