Axie Infinity’s Atia’s Legacy Is Going Multiplatform: Sky Mavis Puts PC First for the Next Playtest

Sky Mavis has confirmed that Atia’s Legacy, its upcoming Axie Infinity MMO, will support PC, Android and iOS at full release — and the next playtest will focus on PC. For a game that spent its early testing life on phones first, the shift signals that the studio behind crypto’s most famous NFT game is thinking bigger than mobile.

The Hook: A Reversal From Mobile-First

In a post on X, the official Axie Infinity account wrote: “Atia’s Legacy will be multiplatform! We’re focusing on PC for the next playtest, but both Android and iOS will be supported for the full release.” The post gave no date for the next playtest or the full launch.

The change matters because of what Sky Mavis said before. After the first playtest, the team published an AMA recap that called Atia’s Legacy a mobile-first game, built for phones and not a scaled-down PC port. The studio acknowledged it had internal PC builds for Mac and Windows, but said a public PC version might launch only if demand justified it. That demand, it seems, has arrived — and controller support was also promised once gameplay stabilized.

How We Got Here: Three Playtests, One Dungeon Where Death Is Permanent

Atia’s Legacy takes place in Lunacia, the fantasy world of the Axie universe, and Sky Mavis first revealed the game on March 5, 2025. The testing roadmap since then tells the story of a studio iterating in public:

  • Playtest 1 — an invite-only alpha for 1,000 selected community members, mobile-only, running September 25 to October 2, 2025 via TestFlight on iOS and an APK on Android
  • Playtest 2 — originally targeted for mid-March, delayed for development time, launched April 8, 2026 on iOS and Android; reworked combat from three-Axie squads to a single Axie with tank, support and damage-dealer roles, added five new weapons, new bosses and a risk-it-all extraction dungeon
  • Playtest 3 — the first to include PC, devoted entirely to real-time PvP, running July 2 to July 4, 2026

That extraction dungeon deserves a word of explanation for anyone who has not followed the game. It is a high-stakes mode straight out of hardcore gaming: if players lose all their HP inside, they lose their equipped items and their Axie can be permanently deleted. They could choose to extract early with their loot or push deeper for bigger rewards. In a game where Axies are NFTs — digital collectibles with real ownership and real value — that design is a genuinely bold fusion of crypto assets and punishing game mechanics.

The PvP Experiment: Eight Players, Five Minutes, One Winner

Playtest 3 also showed how seriously Sky Mavis is taking competitive play. Each match dropped eight players into a five-minute free-for-all, with victory going to the first player to reach 10 kills or to whoever held the best kill-to-death ratio. The goal, according to the team, was to stress-test server latency with large numbers of players queuing at the same time — the kind of unglamorous engineering that decides whether an online game feels good or terrible.

There was money on the line, too. Entry to the Trial of Eight tournament cost 1 AXS, the Axie ecosystem token, and paid out 2,500 bAXS across three events: 1,500 bAXS for the main leaderboard, with 500 bAXS each for The Kill Race and The Letter Race. Players who entered validly and played at least 10 scheduled matches got their entry fee back — a structure designed to reward participation, not just winning.

Market Implications: What This Means for You

Axie Infinity was the game that introduced millions of people to play-to-earn during the last bull run, and its ecosystem tokens and NFTs still trade. For holders of AXS and Axie NFTs, the multiplatform confirmation is meaningful: a PC-quality MMO reaching Steam-scale audiences is a far stronger demand story than a mobile-only release. The market has already rewarded the news — AXS jumped roughly 16% recently to around 1.35 USD, according to price data displayed alongside the announcement.

For the wider NFT gaming sector, the lesson is about evolution. Sky Mavis is not pitching Atia’s Legacy as a crypto slot machine. It is pitching a real MMO — classes, bosses, dungeons, ranked PvP — that happens to run on owned assets. The permanent-deletion dungeon and paid-entry tournaments are competitive-gaming ideas, not DeFi ideas. That is the direction the surviving projects are all moving: game first, tokens second.

The Verdict

No launch date yet, but the direction is clear. Atia’s Legacy is shedding its mobile-only training wheels, and the next playtest on PC will be the clearest signal yet of whether Sky Mavis can deliver an MMO worthy of the Axie name. Watch for the playtest date announcement and how the servers hold up under load — because if the game is good, the multiplatform audience is the smallest part of the upside.

  1. they insisted it was mobile-first in the ama recap, now the next playtest is pc only. someone at sky mavis finally looked at the steam numbers lol

      1. steam page plus the extraction dungeon is the whole funnel tbh. casuals discover it on steam, degen apes feed the burn in permadeath runs. first mmo where the nft actually leaves supply when you mess up

        1. the funnel only works if the steam crowd survives the wallet step. that onboarding wall killed every web3 game that tried steam before

  2. an NFT that gets permanently deleted if you wipe in the extraction dungeon. most projects treat these things like sacred jpgs, sky mavis is out here making them mortal. respect

  3. AXS jumped 16 percent to 1.35 on what is basically a playtest announcement. if the actual PC playtest servers hold up, this could get spicy fast

    1. 16 percent on a playtest date is classic axs. wait for actual pc queue numbers before trusting that candle, this token has pumped on way less

      1. agreed on waiting for real queue numbers but pc playtest into full multiplatform release is more than a date tease. the 2021 pumps ran on roadmap slides, this one has an actual funnel behind it

      2. 16 percent on a playtest date is peak axs behavior, agreed on waiting. but permadeath burns are a real supply sink unlike the 2021 roadmap pumps

      3. hans grind is right about the candle but a steam page is a permanent funnel. roadmap slides in 2021 had nothing behind them, this at least has a store listing

    2. playtest 3 was pure server stress testing but those were eight player lobbies. a full pc playtest is a different beast. if the ronin desktop numbers are what flipped them to pc, the queues will tell us real fast

      1. eight player lobbies to full pc lobbies is a massive server jump. hope the infra team got budget and not just the date

  4. the extraction dungeon deleting your axie permanently if you wipe is genuinely unhinged design for NFTs with real money attached. respect

    1. First to 10 kills or best KDR in a five minute free for all, 1 AXS entry, and now permadeath loot runs on top. That is basically extraction shooter logic with NFTs. Day one queues will be pure chaos.

    2. it also fixes the supply problem nobody mentions. axies have been inflationary since 2021, a dungeon that permanently burns them on wipes is the first real sink the game has ever had

      1. first real sink since 2021 and it doubles as content. whoever pitched permadeath as tokenomics deserves a raise, inflation is the thing that killed axie the first time around

    3. its the only way an extraction mode works tbh. if axies were immortal the dungeon is just a farm. just hope they cap entry costs so one wipe doesnt delete a months salary

  5. pc first for the playtest, mobile at release, that reads like they want the hardcore crowd to shape the endgame before the casuals show up. smart sequencing if the servers survive it

  6. controller support decides this. extraction runs with permadeath on keyboard sound fun, doing that on a phone screen sounds like a chore

  7. good call reversing the mobile-first thing. phone mmos always feel like the demo version. if controller support ships with the PC build the pvp might actually feel legit

    1. Controller support was promised once gameplay stabilized, so it is on the roadmap. Playtest 3 was pure server stress testing, eight players in five minute lobbies, and a full PC playtest is the logical next step.

  8. trial of eight entry was 1 AXS and you got it back after 10 matches. smart way to seed a ranked scene instead of pure pay to win

  9. going from mobile-first in the ama to a pc focused playtest in one quarter is a wild reversal. someone at sky mavis finally stared at the ronin desktop numbers. controller support better ship with it or the pvp crowd bounces

  10. PC playtest into a multiplatform launch is the right order. Mobile first was the original sin, you cannot build an MMO endgame on a touch screen.
