Bitcoin has climbed more than 50 percent off its recent lows, reclaimed its 200-day moving average, and pushed through a stubborn resistance band in the 83,000 to 84,000 USD range. For Katie Stockton, founder of Fairlead Strategies, that sequence of technical events matters — but the bull market call is not confirmed yet. In comments published by Bitcoin Magazine, Stockton laid out the level where she believes a new Bitcoin cycle becomes official: 93,000 USD.
Her framework is grounded in the Ichimoku cloud model, a trend-following system that traders use to distinguish durable reversals from bear-market rallies. On that reading, the recent breakout above the 83,000 to 84,000 USD zone was the necessary first step, but the cloud itself still sits overhead. Only a decisive move through 93,000 USD would, in her words, make the new bull market official rather than merely suggested.
The technicals behind the call
Stockton pointed to a confluence of signals that has shifted constructive. Bitcoin is trading above its 200-day moving average for the first time in months, a line that many trend followers treat as the dividing line between a bear and bull regime. A flag pattern — a brief consolidation that typically resolves in the direction of the prior move — has also broken out to the upside on the daily chart.
On the monthly timeframe, the stochastic oscillator, a momentum gauge that measures where price sits within its recent range, has turned up from deeply oversold territory. Historically, bullish monthly crossovers from low readings have preceded some of Bitcoin’s largest sustained advances, which is why long-term chart watchers weight them more heavily than daily noise.
The price context supports the optimism. Bitcoin is currently trading around 83,500 USD, and the Fear and Greed Index sits at 73, in Greed territory, reflecting sentiment that has already swung decisively away from the fear that dominated earlier in the year. Ethereum trades near 2,678 USD and Solana near 119 USD, with the broader market following Bitcoin’s lead.
Why 93,000 USD and not somewhere else
Round numbers attract attention, but Stockton’s target is not arbitrary. The 93,000 USD area corresponds to the upper boundary of the Ichimoku cloud on the higher timeframes, a zone where sellers previously stepped in and where the last major breakdown accelerated. Resistance of that magnitude tends to mark the difference between a recovery rally within a bear market and a genuine regime change. Until it gives way, the rally remains, technically, a rebound within a downtrend.
That distinction has real consequences for positioning. Bear-market rallies can retrace 50 to 60 percent of a decline and still fail, leaving late buyers exposed. A confirmed breakout above the cloud, by contrast, historically attracts a different class of capital — trend-following funds and allocators who require a higher-timeframe signal before committing.
What could turn her defensive in Q4
Stockton was careful to note the risks. Heading into the fourth quarter, a failure at current levels — particularly a slide back below the 200-day moving average — would invalidate the setup and turn her defensive again. Macro pressures remain part of the picture: Treasury yields that squeezed risk assets through the summer are still a live variable, and gold’s recent volatility has underscored how sensitive the debasement trade remains to interest-rate expectations.
A monthly stochastic reversal before the 93,000 USD level breaks would also be a warning sign, since it would suggest momentum is fading just as price approaches the most important resistance of the cycle.
The bottom line for investors
The message for market participants is one of patience and process rather than prediction. Bitcoin has done everything a recovery is supposed to do so far: hold the 82,500 USD area during stress, reclaim the long-term trend line, and break the first major resistance band. What it has not yet done is clear the level that would confirm, on Stockton’s framework, that the bear market is over.
For traders, the zone between 83,000 and 84,000 USD now shifts from resistance to support, and how price behaves there on any pullback will say a great deal about whether the move toward 93,000 USD is underway. For longer-term investors, the takeaway is simpler: the trend evidence is improving, but confirmation — the kind that changes allocations rather than headlines — still requires one more leg higher.
As always with technical analysis, levels are probabilities, not promises. But when a strategist with Stockton’s record names a single number as the line between bull and bear, the market tends to remember it. If Bitcoin prints 93,000 USD in the weeks ahead, the debate about whether the next cycle has begun will largely be over.
93k as the official line makes sense, the cloud is still overhead even after clearing 83-84k. Stocktons ichimoku reads are usually worth following, she was early on the 2020 consolidation too
the 200dma reclaim matters more than people think. if 84k flips to support on a retest this runs way faster than waiting for 93k confirmation
50 percent off the lows and Fear and Greed already at 73? this is usually where the late longs pile in right before the pullback that tests everyones conviction. cautious here
greed at 73 and we havent even cleared the cloud. cool cool cool
greed at 73 with the cloud still overhead is exactly why the 93k line exists. it waits for proof instead of vibes
reclaiming the 200 day plus clearing that 83-84k resistance band is the best setup all year. if 93k goes through the ichimoku cloud im adding on strength
adding on strength at 93k means paying 12 percent above here lol. stockton’s framework is sound but the entry math is rough
or you size in thirds, some here, some on an 83-84k retest, some on confirmation. nobody said full send at 93k
Sizing in thirds is the boring correct answer. The 83-84k retest is the trade, 93k just tells you when you are no longer early.
the 12 percent premium is the cost of not catching a knife. paying 93k with the monthly stoch turned up beats averaging into a fakeout at 79k, that is the entire point of a confirmation line
12 percent above here is still cheaper than waiting for an 83k retest that never comes. seen that movie twice this year
the 83k retest never came last cycle either once the flag broke. confirmation lines are expensive until they arent
the 83-84k band held as support after the breakout though, that is your retest. waiting for another pullback is just hoping at this point
the rough entry math cuts both ways. twice this year the 83k retest never came and waiting meant missing the whole leg up. paying the premium at 93k is just insurance against catching another 79k knife
twice this year is the exact sample size that should scare you off the waiting game. third time rarely plays different
Fifty percent off the lows and we still call it a bear market rally until 93,000? Ichimoku is fine but that cloud lag will have you buying half the move late.
the cloud lag is the point though, it filters out fakeouts. trade the 83-84k retest for entry, 93k is just the confirmation signal
the cloud lag cuts both ways though, it also kept you out of the 79k fakeout. half the move late is still half the move
cloud lag kept sellers honest through the whole 74 to 84k grind too. boring indicator, fewer fake signals, works for me
half the move late is literally the deal with ichimoku and stockton says so herself. would you rather have caught the full move off 52k or been flat during the 79k fakeout
I followed Fairlead calls back in 2023. Stockton is conservative with confirmation levels, which is exactly why I respect the 93k line rather than fight it.
Fairlead called the 2020 consolidation too. their confirmation levels are boring right up until they arent
Stockton waiting for 93k before calling the bull is the same discipline that kept Fairlead cautious near the 2021 top. ill take boring and right over early and wrong
monthly stochastic turning up while price sits above the 200-day is the part nobody is talking about with this call. if 93k prints the move wont be gradual
ichimoku confirmation at 93k sounds late until you remember the cloud called the 79k fakeout correctly. pay the lag, keep the signal
