Litecoin at 15: 85 Percent Below Its All-Time High and Still Trailing Bitcoin on Every Long-Term Score

Litecoin turned 15 this month, and the birthday present was a brutal report card. According to an analysis published October 17 by 24/7 Wall St., fifteen years after Charlie Lee launched Litecoin as Bitcoin’s faster, cheaper sibling, the veteran altcoin trails its bigger brother on every long-term measurement that matters, sitting roughly 85 percent below its all-time high while Bitcoin is about 35 percent below its own peak.

The milestone did not go unmarked. Lite Strategy (NASDAQ: LITS), the public company that holds Litecoin as its primary treasury asset, acknowledged the October 13 anniversary with a public archive it calls “Proof of Time.” Lee himself, recognized as Litecoin’s creator and a Lite Strategy board member, marked the occasion with a simple message: “When I launched Litecoin in 2011, I wanted to build a faster, cheaper network for everyday transactions. Fifteen years later, that’s still the job.”

### Built as the Silver to Bitcoin’s Gold

Litecoin was created using Bitcoin’s code and launched on October 13, 2011, with a clear pitch: quicker confirmations and lower fees for everyday payments. Its supply cap of 84 million LTC is exactly four times Bitcoin’s 21 million, a design choice that earned it the “silver to Bitcoin’s gold” nickname that still follows it around.

By some measures, the network still does its job. The anniversary release highlights that Litecoin supports over one million weekly transactions as of 2026, with average transaction fees ranging from 0.003 to 0.01 USD. Yet usage has not translated into standing: Litecoin’s market value sits at approximately 4.6 billion USD, placing it 24th among cryptocurrencies, while Bitcoin’s market capitalization stands around 1.64 trillion USD.

### The Performance Gap Is Not Close

Both coins’ price records begin on April 28, 2013, when Litecoin opened at roughly 4.30 USD and Bitcoin at 135 USD. Since then, Litecoin has risen about 1,290 percent, a return most assets would envy. Bitcoin, however, has surged approximately 60,100 percent over the same period, trading around 81,500 USD as of October 17, according to 24/7 Wall St.

The LTC/BTC ratio tells the story in a single line. In April 2013, one Litecoin could buy about 0.0318 BTC. Today it buys roughly 0.00073 BTC, a collapse of more than 97 percent in relative terms. Over the past five years through mid-October 2026, Litecoin has dropped about 68 percent while Bitcoin has gained about 31.6 percent.

Distance from record highs widens the gap further. Bitcoin reached a record 126,080 USD on October 6, 2025, and currently trades about 35 percent below that peak. Litecoin hit its high of 410 USD back in May 2021 and now trades about 85 percent below that mark, meaning its all-time high is more than five years old and counting.

Supply dynamics make a return to 410 USD harder than it looks. Approximately 77.7 million LTC are already in circulation, more than in 2021, so reclaiming the old peak would require a significantly larger market cap and substantial new investment, not just a repeat of past demand.

### Short-Term Bright Spots, Long-Term Lag

It is not all one-directional. Over the 30 days leading up to October 16, Litecoin rose 17 percent, compared with a 7 percent gain for Bitcoin. And it often moves with more violence in both directions: in the week leading up to October 17, Litecoin dropped 6.6 percent while Bitcoin slipped just 1.5 percent, after peaking at 80.25 USD in September.

That September peak matters for the bull case. Litecoin has shown it can still stage sharp rallies, and it enters its 16th year with a concrete catalyst on the calendar.

### The 2027 Halving: Rise, Then Fall?

Litecoin’s next halving, the scheduled cut to mining rewards, is expected around mid-2027 at block 3,360,000, reducing the reward from 6.25 LTC to 3.125 LTC per block. History offers a cautionary pattern rather than a promise.

Before the August 5, 2019 halving, Litecoin peaked around 145 USD in June of that year, only to close near 41 USD by December. The August 2, 2023 halving followed the same script: a peak of roughly 114 USD in July 2023, then a slide to about 57 USD by August. In both cycles, traders bought the rumor and sold the event.

Applied to today’s chart, that template sets clear checkpoints. A monthly close above the September peak of 80.25 USD before block 3,360,000 would align with the typical pre-halving run-up, according to 24/7 Wall St. Conversely, a dip below the June low of 39.21 USD would suggest the halving may come and go without a rally, extending Litecoin’s lag behind Bitcoin into a sixteenth year.

### The Verdict After Fifteen Years

The answer to the anniversary question, by 24/7 Wall St.’s accounting, is that Litecoin has not kept up. Early Litecoin investors profited, the network still processes payments cheaply at scale, and the 2027 halving offers a real, if historically double-edged, catalyst. But across every long-term horizon, from the thirteen-year price record to the five-year comparison to the distance from all-time highs, Bitcoin has left its lighter sibling far behind.

For holders deciding what the sixteenth year holds, the trade is now less about loyalty and more about levels: 80.25 USD to confirm the pre-halving narrative, 39.21 USD to break it.

  1. 85 percent below its all-time high while Bitcoin sits about 35 percent off its peak. That one comparison sums up fifteen years of the digital silver pitch. Held LTC since 2021 and honestly the birthdays keep getting less fun.

    1. silver to bitcoins gold only works if the payments pitch survives lightning and stablecoins. fifteen candles on the cake and the best defense is still nobody complains

      1. litecoin transfers are still cheaper than btc by a mile, the problem is everyone settling in usdt stopped caring. the payments pitch survived, the audience left

    2. since 2021 is rookie numbers, try holding since 2017 lol. at least you skipped the 400 to 30 roundtrip. the report card stings but it aint news to anyone who lived it

  2. proof of time is a cute name for the LITS anniversary archive. meanwhile ltc sits 85 percent down and im holding bags like theyre memorabilia lol

    1. ^ the archive should just be a collage of every ltc to 400 call. cant even blame charlie lee for selling his stack at the top, man saw this report card coming a decade early

  3. 15 years old and 85 percent below its peak while bitcoin sits 35 off its own. The Proof of Time archive is a nice touch but that report card is rough. LTC still processes payments every day and nobody complains

    1. @Terje silver to gold was always the pitch, problem is nobody wanted the silver. Charlie Lee saying thats still the job after 15 years is either dedication or sunk cost lol

      1. charlie lee held zero bags for the whole victory lap decade, calling it dedication is generous. respect for not dumping on holders twice tho

  4. Lite Strategy holding LTC as a treasury asset was the genuinely surprising part here. LITS marking the anniversary with a public archive is very strategy company behavior tho

  5. Scoring it against bitcoin on every long term metric and then acting shocked it loses is kind of rigged. It was never gonna outpace the halving narrative

    1. rigged benchmark sure, but the part nobody answers is what ltc is actually FOR in 2026. payments went to stablecoins, so the halving comparison is just a distraction from that

    2. fair, comparing it to bitcoin was always rigged, but 85 down while btc sits 35 off its own peak is a gap you cant explain with benchmark choice alone. the report card is mean, the number is the number
