MemeCore Surged 89 Percent and Cardano Jumped 25 Percent in July but 40 Percent of Altcoins Are Still at All-Time Lows

July has been kind to a handful of altcoins — and brutal to everyone else. While Bitcoin steadied itself above 64,000 US dollars after the Federal Reserve held rates steady on July 30, the altcoin market tells a tale of two cities. A small group of tokens posted explosive double-digit gains this month, led by MemeCore’s stunning 89 percent surge and Cardano’s 25 percent bounce. But beneath those headline numbers lies a darker reality: according to on-chain analytics, nearly 40 percent of all altcoins are still trading near their all-time lows. If you are trying to figure out whether your altcoin holdings will recover, here is what the data actually says.

The Hook: A Selective Rally, Not a Rising Tide

When the crypto market bounces, the natural assumption is that all boats rise together. That is not what happened in July 2026. According to data from Santiment, a blockchain analytics platform, the weekly returns across altcoins were wildly uneven. MemeCore led the entire market with an 89 percent surge. Cardano (ADA) gained 25 percent. DEXE climbed 23 percent. Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and WhiteBIT (WBT) rose 22 percent and 20 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, the vast majority of altcoins — the hundreds of smaller tokens that make up the long tail of the market — barely moved. This is what analysts call a selective rally: money flows into a few specific tokens while the rest are left behind. It is the opposite of the “altcoin season” phenomenon where nearly every token rises together.

On-Chain Evidence: What Santiment and CryptoQuant Found

The data behind the July rally reveals some fascinating patterns. Santiment reported that capital is quietly rotating back into oversold altcoins as traders move past the fear that dominated the market in late June. In other words, bargain hunters are stepping in — but they are being extremely picky about which tokens they buy.

Ethereum tells its own story. On-chain data shows that wallets holding less than 0.01 ETH increased their share of the total supply by 1.82 percent over the past month. At the same time, larger wallets (holding between 100 and 100,000 ETH) added another 1.73 percent. This means both retail investors and whales are accumulating — while mid-sized holders and short-term traders are the ones selling. That is generally considered a healthy sign, because it means the people buying plan to hold for the long term.

  • MemeCore (M): Up 89 percent — the clear leader of the July rally
  • Cardano (ADA): Up 25 percent — a bounce from severely oversold levels after June’s 40 percent crash
  • DEXE: Up 23 percent — a governance-focused token gaining traction
  • Bitcoin Cash (BCH): Up 22 percent — riding Bitcoin’s coattails
  • The catch: Nearly 40 percent of altcoins are still trading near all-time lows, per CryptoQuant

The Core Conflict: Dead Cat Bounce or Real Recovery?

This is the question every altcoin investor is wrestling with. Darkfost, an analyst at CryptoQuant, highlighted that the altcoin market has reached “an extreme level of underperformance,” with roughly 40 percent of altcoins trading around their all-time lows. That is not a healthy market — it is a market where most projects are effectively dead, surviving on low liquidity and fading interest.

On the bullish side, analyst Michaël van de Poppe believes Bitcoin is either bottoming or in an accumulation phase. His thesis: if Bitcoin breaks above 65,000 US dollars — it currently trades around 64,771 US dollars — altcoins will accelerate higher. He expects one to two months of strong momentum, followed by a correction in September or October, and then another major rally in the fourth quarter.

That is an optimistic scenario. But it comes with a caveat that van de Poppe himself acknowledges: not every altcoin will participate. The tokens that surged in July (MemeCore, ADA, DEXE) share a common trait — they were so beaten down that bargain hunters found them irresistible. A token that has fallen 90 percent only needs a small influx of buying pressure to double in price. That does not mean the project is fundamentally healthy.

Market Implications: How to Tell Winners from Losers

For regular investors trying to navigate this market, here is a practical framework:

  • Do not chase the biggest gainers: An 89 percent surge in a meme token is often driven by speculation, not fundamentals. By the time you read about it, the easy money has already been made.
  • Look for accumulation patterns: The Ethereum data is instructive — when small and large wallets are both buying while mid-sized wallets sell, it suggests long-term holders are positioning for a recovery.
  • Avoid the dead zone: If your altcoin is in the 40 percent trading near all-time lows with no development activity, no community, and no news — it may never recover. Consider cutting losses.
  • Watch the 65,000 Bitcoin level: If BTC breaks above this key resistance, the altcoin rally likely has legs. If it fails, expect the July gains to evaporate quickly.

The Verdict

July 2026 has been a good month for a small group of altcoins and a forgettable one for everyone else. The rally is real — but it is narrow. The tokens that surged were the ones that had fallen the hardest, and the broader altcoin market remains in a deep slump with 40 percent of projects near their all-time lows.

If you are holding altcoins, the most important thing you can do right now is be honest about what you own. Is your token surging because the project is fundamentally improving, or just because it was oversold? Is there real development activity, real usage, and a real community — or is it a speculative bet that happened to bounce? The answers to those questions will determine whether your portfolio participates in the next leg up or gets left behind in the dead zone.

With Ethereum at roughly 1,918 US dollars and showing healthy accumulation by both retail and large holders, ETH remains one of the stronger positions in the altcoin space. For everything else, do your homework — and do not confuse a bounce with a recovery.

  1. MemeCore up 89% and Cardano up 25% in the same month while 40% of alts are dead at lows. this is not a rally, its a casino

    1. altcoin_graveyard_

Bence T. calling July a casino is generous. MemeCore up 89% on zero fundamentals while 40% of alts bleed to ATLs. this is pure rotation into speculation not a market recovery

  2. trashpanda_77

DEXE doing 23% with zero mention in mainstream crypto media. quiet accumulation is where the real moves happen

  3. both shrimp and whales accumulating ETH while mid-sizes dump. seen this pattern before in late 2023, we all know how that ended

    1. moonboy_skeptic

^ the 2023 comparison is cope. rates were different, ETF narrative was building, this time theres no catalyst

      1. cycle_bottom_watcher

moonboy_skeptic disagree on no catalyst. rate cuts are coming and liquidity always flows into alts first during risk-on cycles. the 40% at ATLs are dead projects, not the whole sector

  4. Cardano up 25% from all-time lows is barely a bounce. ADA was $3 in 2021 and now celebrating a move from $0.40 to $0.50. the bar is underground
