Securitize Is Winning the Tokenization Race but Losing Money Doing It: What the SECZ Reality Check Means for Your Portfolio

Securitize, the company that tokenized its own stock on the day of its New York Stock Exchange debut, is winning the tokenization race on every metric except the one public investors care about most: money. Fresh reporting this week shows the firm keeps landing partnerships and regulatory wins while revenue shrinks, losses widen and 2026 guidance gets cut — a split that says as much about the state of blockchain infrastructure as it does about one company.

The Infrastructure It Built Is Very Real

Start with what is objectively working, because it is a long list. In July, Securitize went public on the NYSE under the ticker SECZ and put its own shares on-chain the same day, per Reuters. Earlier this month it launched tokenized versions of Apple, Nvidia and Tesla stock on Solana, letting eligible investors in the United States and Europe hold share-backed tokens — a milestone multiple outlets, including CoinDesk, covered on October 8. Days earlier, its shares had jumped roughly 10 percent on a memorandum of understanding with LG CNS to explore tokenized funds, equities and stablecoins for Korean financial institutions. And on October 12, StoneX raised its price target on the stock by half, part of a broader run of analyst upgrades across crypto-adjacent platforms.

The Numbers: Adoption Up, Revenue Down

Here is the uncomfortable part. A Forbes reality-check published October 16 notes that while Securitize keeps adding tokenization partnerships and enjoying regulatory tailwinds, its revenue has declined, its losses have widened, and management cut its 2026 guidance. That follows a bruising second quarter: the company reported 14.4 million US dollars in quarterly revenue in August, well short of Wall Street estimates, and the stock fell sharply — with after-hours losses exceeding 20 percent in immediate trading, per Yahoo Finance coverage at the time.

Meanwhile, the tokenized-stocks market itself is still small beer. Industry trackers reported this week that only about 10.7 percent of tokenized stocks are issuer-sponsored — that is, put on-chain by the company whose shares they represent — a figure Securitize dominates but which underscores how early the whole category remains.

The Core Conflict: Building Rails Before the Trains Arrive

The tension is a classic infrastructure bet. Securitize’s chief strategy officer, Chongwu Du, argued this month that tokenized finance will ultimately run on “a few blockchains, not one” — a hedge that makes technical sense but also reflects a market where no single chain has yet won institutional settlement. A regulatory opening helped: an SEC “innovation exemption” has enabled automated market makers for tokenized stocks, breathing life into the category this autumn. But permission to operate is not the same as profitable volume, and Securitize is effectively paying today’s costs to own tomorrow’s rails.

What It Means for Everyday Investors

If you hold regular brokerage stocks, tokenized equities do not change your life yet — eligibility is limited, liquidity is thin, and the main benefit, around-the-clock transferability, matters mostly to sophisticated traders. If you own crypto infrastructure stocks, the lesson from SECZ is blunter: the tokenization thesis can be completely correct and still take years to translate into earnings. Firms like Securitize are booking the expenses of building compliant pipelines while the assets flowing through them are still measured in the millions, not the trillions that boosters project.

The Verdict

Securitize is not a broken company — it is an early one with a public-market price tag. The blockchain plumbing it operates, from Solana stock tokens to Korean institutional pilots, is exactly the infrastructure narrative long-term crypto investors have been promised. But until revenue catches up to the roadmap, the stock will trade on sentiment and quarterly guidance, not on the revolution it is helping build. Watch the issuer-sponsored share of tokenized stocks and any uptick in on-chain volumes; those, not price-target hikes, will tell you when the thesis starts paying for itself.

  1. tokenized Apple, Nvidia and Tesla on Solana plus an LG CNS mou, and revenue still shrinking. adoption is real, monetization is nowhere close to real

    1. ^ and the Forbes piece has losses widening too. partnerships dont pay for data centers, at some point the fee revenue has to actually show up

  2. tokenizing Apple, Nvidia and Tesla stock on Solana is a genuine flex, but shrinking revenue and cut 2026 guidance? the market probably already priced that into SECZ

    1. same story as every picks-and-shovels build. the rails are real, the revenue isnt, question is which one flips first

  3. went public on nyse, tokenized its own stock the same day, then cut 2026 guidance within months. brutal debut year for SECZ holders

  4. regulatory wins dont pay salaries. every infrastructure player this cycle is learning you can collect the licenses and still bleed cash

  5. Integration partners keep stacking and the stock still gets sold. At some point the market is saying the licensing revenue ceiling is lower than the story needs

  6. Tokenizing your own shares on listing day makes a great press release and a weird priority. Nobody asked for on-chain SECZ
