Solana defends the 98–100 USD zone and compresses into a 4-hour triangle — traders brace for a bigger move
Solana is coiling for its next big move. After a late-week rebound successfully defended the 98–100 USD support zone, SOL has settled into a tightening symmetrical triangle on the 4-hour chart — a formation that typically precedes an expansion in volatility, even if it refuses to say which direction the breakout will take.
According to data from crypto.news, Solana (SOL) traded near 101.50 USD on September 14 after a seven-day stretch that saw the token dip to a multi-week low of 98.38 USD on September 11 before recovering back above the century mark. SOL opened the week at 103.33 USD on September 8 and finished the period down roughly 2.2 percent — a modest loss that masks the intensity of the fight happening just below the surface.
The rebound attempts have repeatedly stalled in the 103–105 USD area, where sellers have established a firm ceiling. The result is a market caught between defended support below and persistent supply above, with the trading range narrowing by the day.
The bigger picture: a consolidation, not a collapse
Zoom out and the structure looks constructive. Solana has been consolidating since reaching approximately 110 USD in late August, following a steep rally from the mid-70 USD range. That places the current range comfortably above the market’s earlier August breakout area — a sign that the pullback has so far been a correction within a broader recovery rather than a trend reversal.
The daily relative strength index supports that read. RSI stands at 56.17, above the neutral 50 level but below its moving average of 60.80 — indicating the wider recovery has retained momentum even as buying strength has cooled during the consolidation.
Murrey Math levels add another layer of nuance. Price currently sits near the chart’s 101 USD “ultimate resistance” line. A sustained move above this area would still need to clear recent highs between 105 USD and 110 USD before confirming another leg higher.
Inside the triangle
The 4-hour chart shows SOL compressing inside a symmetrical triangle, with descending resistance extending from the late-August high and ascending support connecting the September lows. At approximately 101.50 USD, Solana trades in the lower half of the formation. The pattern’s upper trendline sits around 103 USD, while rising support approaches the 100–100.70 USD region.
Complicating the bullish case, the Supertrend indicator remains bearish at 104.08 USD, placing another layer of resistance directly above the triangle. SOL would need to break both the descending trendline and the Supertrend level to strengthen the short-term bull argument.
The Aroon indicator offers a more constructive signal. Aroon Up stands at 85.71 percent while Aroon Down sits at 0 percent, suggesting recent highs occurred much more recently than recent lows. That said, the signal has not yet translated into a confirmed breakout. A 4-hour close above roughly 103 USD could open the way toward 104.08 USD and the broader 105–106 USD resistance zone. Failure to hold the triangle’s lower boundary would instead expose 98.50 USD, followed by the weekly low near 98.38 USD.
Traders should treat a confirmed candle close outside the structure as more meaningful than an intraday poke beyond the trendlines — symmetrical triangles resolve in either direction, and false breaks are common near the apex.
The liquidation map points to fuel on both sides
CoinGlass’s 24-hour liquidation heatmap shows concentrated leverage immediately above and below Solana’s market price, setting up conditions where price could accelerate quickly once a level breaks. The closest large upside cluster sits around 102.60–102.90 USD, with additional liquidity near 103.60–104 USD. A rise through 103 USD could force leveraged shorts to close, potentially accelerating a move toward the upper resistance levels, with further liquidity extending toward 105–106 USD.
On the downside, liquidity is concentrated around 100.60–100.80 USD, with a larger band near 98.50–98.80 USD. A break below 100 USD would encounter a pool of long liquidations before SOL reaches the more important 98 USD support area. The heatmap does not establish direction by itself — it simply shows where forced buying and selling could amplify whichever move materializes.
Solana’s recovery from below 99 USD during the displayed period suggests buyers have so far absorbed selling near the lower cluster, but price remains beneath the closest upside liquidity, leaving neither side in clear control.
Analyst levels to watch
Crypto analyst Ella described the 98.50–100 USD region as the support zone preserving Solana’s broader rebound. According to her September 13 analysis, daily acceptance above 106 USD would return the 109–110.50 USD area to focus, while 104.50–106 USD represents the immediate resistance band bulls need to reclaim first.
The macro backdrop adds urgency to the technical setup. Solana itself traded around 102.68 USD in broader market data on September 14, up nearly 1.9 percent over 24 hours, while Bitcoin changed hands near 78,812 USD and Ethereum near 2,530 USD. With the Federal Reserve’s September 16 decision looming and prediction markets pricing a hike at high probability, the resolution of SOL’s triangle may collide with a market-wide volatility event.
For holders, the plan is straightforward: respect the 98–100 USD zone as the line in the sand, watch 103 USD and the 104.08 USD Supertrend as the gates to the upside, and let a confirmed close outside the triangle — not hope — dictate the next position.

symmetrical triangle on the 4h means nothing until volume confirms. could break either way and everyone will claim they called it
volume point is the real one. last two 4h candles printed dead flat vol, so even a break of 105 means nothing without expansion. thats the filter im waiting on
dead flat 4h candles before a break is classic compression. set the alert on a volume spike outside the range and ignore everything in between
Volume confirmation is the boring correct answer. Everyone wants to pre-call the direction, nobody wants to wait for it.
98.38 defended twice but the 103-105 ceiling rejected every attempt too. until volume expands both sides are just paying fees inside the triangle
both sides paying fees inside the triangle is the most sol trading experience ever described. salvatore with the painful truth
the fees line is too real, got chopped twice inside that 98 to 105 range already. waiting for the actual expansion candle
That 98.38 low on September 11 getting defended twice is the only thing keeping me from taking profits here.
103 to 105 supply zone rejected every attempt this week. feels like one more flush under 100 before anything real
^ or it just chops inside the triangle for another week and tortures both sides
the 98.38 double defense is nice but wickhunt has a point about one more flush. stop hunting under round numbers is a rite of passage on sol
symmetrical triangles on the 4h are a coinflip with extra steps. only thing that matters is 98 holding
98 holding is the whole trade tbh. lose that and the triangle debate stops mattering real quick
^ this. 98 goes and its not a triangle break, its a fast trip to the low 90s before anyone can react
^ got chopped to bits on the last fakeout near 105. waiting for an actual close outside the range, not the wick
got wicked out at 104.7 last week too, feel that. no reentry until a 4h candle actually closes outside the range
Weekly close down barely 2.2 percent after all that noise. Coils like this usually move right when everyone stops watching.
called my last three coil exits wrong by watching too hard, so this tracks. alerts at 97.5 and 105.5, nothing in between
mid 70s to 110 and now this coil. as long as 98.38 holds im treating dips as a discount, not a breakdown
dips as discount works until a fed hike forces one honest retest of 98.38. staged buys survive that, lump sums get to find out live
an honest retest of 98.38 would also flush the leveraged longs camping at 100. cleanest fuel for whichever way this triangle actually breaks
weekly closed down 2.2 after defending 98.38 twice. a boring close into fed week usually means the move waits for the decision, not before it
2.2 percent down while defending 98.38 twice is about as quiet as sol gets before a big decision. staying small until a real expansion candle prints, fed week fakeouts are brutal
breakout volume never shows up until after the fakeout. triangle will shake out both sides first, it always does
fakeout first then the real move, the sol triangle special. both my stops got taken on the same wick last time around
the same wick took my stop at 104.6 and then ran without me. alerts at 97.5 and 105.5, touch nothing in between, learned that the expensive way
same, got wicked both ways inside the 98 to 105 chop. now its alerts at 98.3 and 105.5 and nothing in between, let the fed candle pick the direction
