Strategy Buys the Dip Again: 267 More Bitcoin While Saylor Declares We Are Moving Back Into a Bull Market

Strategy kept buying Bitcoin last week — but the real story in its latest SEC filing is where the money went, and what Michael Saylor said about the market over the weekend.

The world’s largest publicly traded corporate Bitcoin holder purchased 267 BTC for 22.1 million USD between October 12 and October 18, at an average price of 82,900 USD per coin, according to a Monday filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The purchase brings Strategy’s total holdings to 848,517 BTC — a stash that dwarfs every other corporate treasury in the world.

Context matters for sizing the purchase. At an average entry price of 82,900 USD, Strategy bought the dip rather than chased strength — Bitcoin dipped 1.3 percent over the past seven days to trade near 82,783 USD at the time of publication, according to CoinGecko data. For a company that has historically bought at both bargain and peak prices, the discipline of accumulating during a drawdown is exactly what long-term shareholders want to see.

A small buy with a loud message

The acquisition may be modest by Strategy’s historical standards, but it extends a purchase streak that has continued through one of the more turbulent stretches for Bitcoin in recent memory. The company funded the buy primarily through 22 million USD in proceeds from selling 140,872 shares of its common stock, MSTR — the ATM issuance machine that has powered its accumulation strategy since 2020.

Notably, Strategy spent far more defending its capital structure than adding to its Bitcoin position. The company repurchased 1.94 million shares of its Stretch (STRC) preferred stock for 193.1 million USD, and raised its digital credit securities buyback authorization from 2 billion USD to 3 billion USD.

STRC buybacks now outpace Bitcoin purchases

The pattern is now well established. So far in the fourth quarter, Strategy has spent 459.2 million USD repurchasing STRC shares — more than six times the 72.3 million USD it spent acquiring 851 Bitcoin over the same period. STRC is a variable-rate preferred stock designed to pay regular dividends, and management has said it intends to keep repurchasing shares that trade below their 100 USD stated value to support the price.

The company reported a 4.83 billion USD reserve to support preferred dividends and debt interest payments, alongside 447.3 million USD in separate cash holdings. For investors watching Strategy as a Bitcoin proxy, the balance sheet signals that management is prioritizing the health of its funding instruments — the very tools that make the endless Bitcoin accumulation possible in the first place.

Saylor: the bull market is returning

The filing landed days after Michael Saylor made his most bullish public comments in months. Speaking at ParaFi Investor Day on Saturday, Saylor pointed to Bitcoin’s recovery above its 200-day simple moving average — a widely followed gauge of longer-term price trends — and declared: “We’re moving back into a bull market.”

Saylor identified restrictive trade, foreign and monetary policies as remaining headwinds, but highlighted growing bank adoption of Bitcoin and the tokenization of traditional financial assets as the key drivers ahead. It is the same thesis he has articulated for years, now backed by a price chart that appears to be cooperating again.

What it means for Bitcoin investors

For the broader Bitcoin market, Strategy’s behavior cuts both ways. The steady accumulation provides a structural bid that refuses to disappear, even in weak tape. At the same time, the shift in capital allocation toward STRC buybacks tells you management sees preferred-stock weakness as the more urgent fire to put out — a reminder that the treasury company’s leverage works in both directions.

Markets appeared to side with Saylor’s optimism on Monday. MSTR shares traded more than 2.5 percent higher in premarket activity ahead of the Nasdaq open, recovering from a 9.6 percent drop on Friday that closed the stock at 138.83 USD. STRC gained about 0.8 percent in premarket to 98.45 USD, still below its 100 USD stated value.

The bottom line

Strategy now holds nearly 849,000 BTC and keeps buying regardless of sentiment. When the loudest corporate voice in Bitcoin says the bull market is back while his company quietly reallocates billions toward shoring up its preferred equity, smart investors should watch both signals at once. The accumulation thesis is intact — but the plumbing behind it matters now more than ever.

    1. they buy the dip every single week regardless, sizing changes with their cash raises. the 849k stack is the story, not one tranche

    2. 267 btc at these prices is basically a rounding error on 849k. still green candles for the market tho, ill take it

  1. 4.83 billion reserved for preferred dividends and they are buying back stock under the 100 dollar stated value. Saylor is protecting the plumbing more than he is aping

    1. the preferred dividend wall is the part nobody prices in. 4.83 billion owed before common holders see anything, buying the dip is the easy half

    2. satoshis_grandpa

been saying this since the last big raise. accumulation continues but the balance sheet math is getting complicated. still bullish, eyes open

      1. 82.9k average entry on a 22 million tranche is barely a signal either way. the 848,517 total is what the market watches, agreed

    3. Buying back preferred under the 100 dollar stated value is smart capital allocation honestly. People overlook that part because bull market quotes make better headlines
