Blur Is Shutting Down on November 12: What NFT Holders With Blend Loans Need to Do Before the Deadline

Blur, the NFT marketplace that once dominated Ethereum trading, is shutting down its website on November 12 — and if you have an outstanding Blend loan, the clock is now ticking on your repayment deadline.

The Hook: A Giant Exits the Stage

Blur announced it will close its marketplace frontend next month and stop issuing new Blend loans, according to reports from The Block, Decrypt and CoinDesk. The decision comes after the platform’s trading volume collapsed by roughly 99 percent from its peak, CoinDesk reported, a staggering fall for a marketplace that was once the largest destination for Ethereum NFT trading.

The news hit the BLUR token hard. Multiple outlets reported the token dropped around 29 percent after the announcement and fell to a record low against the USD. For everyday NFT holders, though, the more urgent question is not the token price — it is what happens to the collections, bids and loans still sitting on the platform.

What Is Actually Shutting Down

Here is the part that matters most for your peace of mind: what is closing is Blur’s website and frontend — the storefront you use to browse and trade — not the underlying smart contracts on Ethereum. Those contracts are permanent pieces of blockchain infrastructure that keep running whether the website exists or not.

Think of it like a shopping mall closing its doors while the shops’ safes stay bolted to the floor. Your NFTs are not stored “on Blur” — they are held in your own wallet or in lending contracts you control access to. The marketplace is just the window you look through.

  • Website closure — the Blur frontend shuts on November 12, 2026
  • New Blend loans — no new loans will be issued through the platform
  • Existing loans — borrowers with outstanding Blend loans should repay them by the November 12 deadline, according to guidance reported by AMBCrypto
  • Your NFTs — remain in your wallet; they are not affected by the website closing

The Core Conflict: Why Collectors Are Cheering a Funeral

In a twist that tells you a lot about how the NFT market has changed, not everyone is mourning. As TradingView noted in its coverage, some NFT collectors are actually cheering the shutdown. Why? Because Blur’s rise was built on aggressive incentives — token rewards, bidding wars and leveraged lending — that many artists and collectors blamed for turning the NFT market into a casino.

Blur popularized Blend, a lending system that let people borrow against their NFTs with no fixed repayment date. In plain terms, it worked like using your baseball card collection as collateral for a cash loan. That leverage supercharged trading volumes during the boom, but it also meant that when prices fell, losses compounded and desperate sellers flooded the market.

The 99 percent collapse in volume that CoinDesk reported did not happen overnight. It reflects a long period where the speculative frenzy of 2021 and 2022 drained away and never came back. Blur’s exit is less a shocking accident and more the final chapter of an era — professional-grade trading infrastructure for a market that no longer trades at that scale.

What This Means for You as an NFT Holder

If you never used Blur, the practical impact on you is close to zero. If you did, here is your checklist. First, if you have an open Blend loan, plan to repay it before November 12 to avoid complications once the frontend is gone — managing a loan through direct contract interaction is possible but technical. Second, if you have active bids or listings on Blur, cancel or settle them before the shutdown. Third, if you hold BLUR tokens, understand you now own a token whose main product is winding down — a very different risk profile than before.

More broadly, the marketplace shakeout continues. OpenSea remains the best-known general marketplace, and niche platforms focused on specific communities have fared better than the high-volume trading venues. The lesson of the last two years is that marketplaces are businesses — they can close — while the NFTs themselves live on the blockchain. The safer habit is to treat any marketplace as a temporary tool, not a vault.

The Verdict

Blur’s shutdown is a milestone, not a catastrophe. It marks the end of the leverage-fueled NFT trading era and forces anyone with exposure to take three simple actions: repay Blend loans by November 12, clean up open bids and listings, and move activity to another marketplace if you still trade. For the wider market, it removes a source of artificial volume and may make remaining price data more honest — which, in the long run, is healthier for everyone still holding digital collectibles.

The cryptocurrency market remains highly volatile. This article is for informational purposes only and does not constitute financial advice.

  1. nov 12 deadline to sort blend loans and then the site goes dark. if you still owe against some 2021 pfp you better be lining up a buyer now

  2. If you have a Blend loan against an NFT bought in 2022, repay before November 12 or get comfortable calling the contract directly on Etherscan. No frontend means no friendly repay button.

    1. This. My cousin is in exactly that situation and keeps saying he will deal with it later. Later is November 12.

    2. calling the contract directly is fine until you realize repay needs your loan id and nobody has that screenshotted. save your blend loan details now before the frontend goes dark

      1. export the loan id AND check if the collateral even has a bid side anymore, some of those 2022 pfps have zero depth outside blend

        1. checked my 2022 collection floor, bid side outside blend is one 0.5 eth offer. refinancing is not an option for most of these loans, repayment is the only exit

    3. ^ the loan id really is the only hard part. it shows on the blend contract page on etherscan once you search your wallet, took me ten minutes to export mine

      1. this. everyone waits for the last week and then gas spikes on repay day. calendar reminder set for nov 1, no exceptions

  3. Volume down 99 percent from peak and people act surprised the frontend is closing. The incentive money ran out, simple as that.

  4. Collectors cheering the shutdown says everything. Blur bidding rewards and leveraged lending turned the art market into a casino, and the volume was never real demand. Good riddance.

    1. Roughly 99 percent volume collapse and the token still dropped another 29 percent on the shutdown news. Brutal, but that is finally honest price discovery.

  5. BLUR down 29% to a fresh all time low on the news. a token that existed to farm its own marketplace was always gonna end here

    1. fresh ATL on shutdown day is just the market finally pricing the farm emissions at zero. was never a marketplace token, was an incentive token

      1. the loop was the product is the best blur summary ive read. bidding rewards paid in BLUR to buy nfts to farm more BLUR, of course it ended at zero

  6. blend was most of nft liquidity at one point and now theres a 4 week wind down window. rough way to learn what protocol dependent means

  7. November 12 is also open-bid cleanup day. active bids die with the frontend same as the repay button, pull everything before the site goes dark

    1. bids dying with the frontend is the detail people keep missing. floor support outside blend is about to get real thin for 2022 pfps

  8. everyone says just call the contract on etherscan but half of blend borrowers have never opened a write tab. somebody will ship a repay tool and charge for it, watch

  9. The contracts keep running is comforting until you remember most holders never signed a raw transaction in their life.

  10. loan id screenshotted and tested a small repay through the write tab. the four week window feels generous til you remember collateral down 90 percent has no refi anywhere

  11. 99 percent volume collapse and people still hold blend positions. repay through the write tab this week, dont wait for nov 12
