MapleStory Universe Burns 3.162M NXPC in Q3 as Cumulative Destruction Hits 14.812M Tokens

MapleStory Universe’s publishing partner Nexpace has completed its NXPC token burn for the third quarter of 2026, sending 3.162 million tokens to a dead address and pushing the cumulative total destroyed since the program began to 14.812 million NXPC.

The burn, announced through a post on X pointing to a disclosure on Nexpace’s website, marks the fifth cycle of a supply-management program that has quietly become one of the most consistent in the Web3 gaming sector — and it lands at a delicate moment for NFT-backed gaming projects, several of which have recently announced shutdowns or radical pivots.

How the burn works

Under a policy Nexpace rolled out in November 2025, each quarterly burn is set at 20 percent of the revenue the MapleStory Universe ecosystem collects from user activity — fees from things like marketplace trades and in-game item enhancement. Grants, treasury operations and external financing are excluded from the calculation.

The tokens are sent to the standard burn address on the Henesys chain. Because Henesys lacks a native burn function, anything sent to that address is unrecoverable, making the destruction permanent. After each burn, Nexpace has pledged to release a public report that includes on-chain proof of the transaction.

According to the announcement, the latest burn pushed the cumulative total destroyed since the program’s launch to 14.812 million NXPC. In its post, Nexpace wrote: “This quarter’s burn reflects continued activity across the MSU ecosystem as we keep building for long-term growth.”

Five cycles of steady destruction

The program kicked off on November 27, 2025, with a burn of 3,840,417 NXPC, valued at 1.65 million USD at the time. That initial round spanned two full quarters and eliminated roughly 0.38 percent of total supply and 1.7 percent of circulating supply.

A second cycle followed, burning 1.61 million NXPC. The third, on May 21, 2026, drew on first-quarter revenue and destroyed about 2.88 million tokens. The fourth, on July 16, was based on second-quarter revenue and removed about 3.33 million — still the biggest burn to date, fueled largely by Mapler Shop revenue during the 1st Universary promotion that ran from May 14 to June 10.

While the latest third-quarter burn falls short of July’s figure, it exceeds every other cycle apart from the first. The trajectory suggests that user-activity revenue, the input that sizes each burn, has remained healthy through the second half of the year.

First-half report shows a real economy

The burn numbers gain context from Nexpace’s first-half 2026 report, published September 9. The company reported protocol revenue of 30.98 million NXPC for the period, while players earned 28.14 million NXPC in gameplay rewards — revenue slightly outpacing player payouts.

As of June 30, cumulative protocol revenue stood at 58.22 million NXPC, and roughly 95 percent of that came from players voluntarily spending on item synthesis and enhancement, according to the company. The MSU Marketplace processed 2.74 million transactions during the half, amounting to about 32.1 million NXPC in volume.

Wallet adoption is also growing: Nexpace tallied 855,500 wallets created since launch, with 564,700 of them — about 66 percent — having carried out on-chain transactions. The company stated in the report that it plans to continue directing 20 percent of quarterly revenue toward NXPC burns.

Burn is not the only supply tool

Burning is not Nexpace’s only lever. In May 2026, the company unveiled an NXPC buyback program worth up to 10 million USD. Unlike burned tokens, repurchased NXPC is not destroyed — Nexpace keeps it in its treasury for future use within the ecosystem.

The distinction matters for token holders. Burns permanently reduce supply and are tied directly to ecosystem revenue, while buybacks recycle tokens into the project’s own reserves. NXPC’s total supply is capped at 1 billion tokens, of which about 225 million — 22.5 percent — were in circulation at launch.

Why this matters for Web3 gaming

The third-quarter burn arrives amid a bruising stretch for NFT gaming. Pudgy Penguins is shutting down its Abstract chain in December, and several high-profile projects have pivoted away from tokenized items or shut down marketplaces outright. Against that backdrop, a game economy that reliably burns a fifth of its activity revenue each quarter — with public on-chain proof — stands out.

The MapleStory Universe account greeted the announcement with a brief message: “Things have been busy in the Universe. Here’s another 3.162M NXPC burned to show for it.”

For players and observers of the play-and-earn sector, the steady rhythm of Nexpace’s burns offers something rare in the space: a supply policy that has now survived five consecutive quarters with transparent sizing rules and a track record of public reporting.

  1. fifth straight quarterly burn and people still call it a nothingburger. consistency is literally the rarest thing in web3 gaming, most of these tokens cant even ship a quarterly report

  2. 3.162M burned out of a 1B cap and people are printing fireworks memes lol. its something, but wake me when cumulative burns crack 5% of supply. respect the consistency tho, five straight quarters is rare in web3 gaming

    1. 1.4 pct of the 1B cap after five quarters is glacial, true. counterpoint is the cap was never going to circulate fully, the burn rate against actual float is higher than the headline suggests

    2. the consistency is the whole point though. most gaming tokens dont even publish revenue, nexpace puts out on-chain proof every quarter. 95% of protocol revenue coming from players voluntarily is the number that matters here

      1. the 95 percent figure is nice until you remember heneseys has no native burn function so theyre just mailing coins to a dead address and hoping nobody finds the keys lol. permanent enough i guess

  3. burned 3.16M but they also have a 10M usd buyback sitting in treasury, thats not destruction thats recycling. still, 28.14M earned by players vs 30.98M revenue in H1 means the economy isnt purely extractive, ill give em that

    1. recycling or not, a burn funded by actual marketplace fees beats the gaming chains that burned tokens they printed themselves. plenty did exactly that in 2024

    2. the buyback is funded by marketplace fees either way. whether the tokens get burned or recycled into rewards, players paid for them. still better than most gaming treasuries quietly dumping on the market

    3. exactly this. everyone obsesses over the burn size, the buyback part gets quietly ignored. net supply reduction is way smaller than the headlines suggest
