Developer Community Deploys Uncensorable Interfaces in Response to Global Crackdown

PARIS — The ideological clash between the decentralized ethos of Web3 and the strict compliance mandates of global governments reached a boiling point this weekend. Following the aggressive seizure of several prominent decentralized mixing protocols by European law enforcement, the global developer community has launched a massive, coordinated counter-offensive, rapidly deploying hundreds of highly resilient “mirror” interfaces hosted entirely on decentralized, peer-to-peer networks.

The law enforcement strategy relied on a critical vulnerability in modern decentralized finance (DeFi): while the smart contracts themselves are mathematically secure on the blockchain, the websites used by retail investors to access those contracts are typically hosted on centralized, easily censorable Web2 servers (like AWS or Google Cloud).   1. been hosting a mirror on my IPFS node since this dropped. took maybe 15 minutes to set up. the hydra analogy is spot on

    1. seizing domain names was always a bandaid fix. the smart contracts kept running the whole time. regulators still dont understand what theyre dealing with

        felix domain seizure only works because users type URLs. if wallets and dapps used content addressing by default this wouldnt even be a vector. IPNS and arweave solve this

        1. arweave_node content addressing as default would solve this but UX would suffer. users want readable URLs not cryptographic hashes

      15 minutes to set up an IPFS mirror is faster than the time it takes regulators to file the paperwork to seize a domain. the speed asymmetry is the real story
