“More Orange Than Ever”: Michael Saylor Teases Another Bitcoin Buy as Strategy Sits on 847,666 BTC in Profit

Michael Saylor is at it again. On October 4, the Strategy co-founder posted “More orange than ever” alongside the company’s Bitcoin purchase tracker — the kind of weekend tease that has reliably preceded disclosure of a fresh buy. Nothing is confirmed yet, but the numbers behind the hint are staggering: Strategy’s last reported holdings stand at 847,666 BTC, bought for a total of 63.95 billion USD, and worth far more at today’s price.

By Sarah Park | October 4, 2026

The Hook: A Pattern Investors Have Seen Before

Saylor’s wording closely mirrors an earlier signal. His previous “Even more orange” post was followed by Strategy disclosing a purchase of 1,665 BTC in a September 28 SEC filing. A similar pattern, however, does not guarantee a repeat — as of Sunday, no newer SEC filing has disclosed an additional Bitcoin purchase, and the October 4 post included no amount, date, or price.

On-Chain Evidence: What Strategy Actually Bought

The company’s latest confirmed numbers, from the September 28 filing, show a machine that has restarted after earlier pauses:

  • 1,665 BTC acquired between September 21 and 27 for 142.7 million USD, an average of 85,681 USD per coin
  • Total holdings of 847,666 BTC, acquired for 63.95 billion USD all-in — an average cost of 75,437 USD per coin including fees
  • One week earlier, a separate purchase of 950 BTC for 75.7 million USD at an average price of 79,670 USD, marking a return to consecutive weekly buying
  • 18.84 billion USD of MSTR shares still available for future issuance under the company’s stock program, according to the latest filing

The purchase machine runs on a simple loop: Strategy issues shares, sells them into the market, and converts the proceeds into Bitcoin. The most recent buy was funded by selling 1,469,165 MSTR shares between September 21 and 27, which generated 246.2 million USD — well over the 142.7 million USD spent on coins that week. The filing also shows the fuel for future buys is nowhere near exhausted: 18.84 billion USD of MSTR shares remain available for future issuance under the company’s stock program.

For perspective on how large the position has become: 847,666 BTC represents a meaningful slice of all the Bitcoin that will ever exist, secured on a single corporate balance sheet. No other public company comes close, and each incremental purchase moves the needle less in percentage terms but still tightens available supply — a term traders use for coins actually willing to trade hands rather than sit in long-term storage.

The Core Conflict: Paper Gains vs. the Average Cost Line

Bitcoin trades near 85,116 USD according to CoinGecko, up roughly half a percent over 24 hours and moving inside a daily range of about 84,572 to 85,401 USD. That matters enormously for Strategy, because the company’s average acquisition cost sits at 75,437 USD per BTC — nearly 10,000 USD below the market price. At current levels, Strategy’s 847,666 BTC stack is worth close to 72.3 billion USD, roughly 8.3 billion USD above what the company paid for it. If Bitcoin falls back below that 75,437 USD line, the entire story flips from windfall to underwater.

Market Implications: Why One Company’s Wallet Moves the Market

Strategy is not the only big buyer at the table. According to CryptoQuant data cited in the report, United States spot Bitcoin ETF holdings have increased by roughly 88,000 BTC since July. Combine relentless corporate accumulation with steady ETF demand and the pool of available Bitcoin tightens — fewer coins in circulation willing to change hands, and each Saylor tease pulls forward demand that might otherwise wait. For a regular investor, the practical read is this: large, well-capitalized buyers are treating every dip toward the low 80,000s as an accumulation zone, though nothing about their buying guarantees the price holds.

The Verdict: Watch the Filing, Not the Tweet

Saylor’s post is a hint, not a receipt. The confirmation will come — or won’t — in an SEC filing early next week, as it did after his September signal. What is already certain is the scale: 847,666 BTC makes Strategy the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin in the world, its position sitting comfortably in profit, with billions in stock issuance capacity still ready to convert into more coins. “More orange than ever” may prove to be exactly what it sounds like. Until the paperwork lands, treat it as theater with a very real track record.

    1. 847,666 btc and the man still does the sunday tease lol. last time the even more orange post took days to become a 1,665 btc filing, give the sec paper a minute

      1. Agreed. If the next filing shows another 1,600ish BTC the market might finally shrug. The bar for what counts as news is the whole stack now.

        1. 1,600 more btc will be a shrug, sure. but a monday with no filing after a tease is the only thing that actually moves this stock now

          1. the no filing monday is the black swan nobody hedges. every algo buys the tease, one silence and the front runners stampede out

  1. Careful with reading the tracker tease as a confirmation. Last time the filing showed 1,665 BTC, that is a rounding error for them now. Could be nothing until the SEC paper shows up.

    1. @Per you’re right but thats the whole bit. the ambiguity IS the marketing, every tease trends before any filing drops

    2. fair point but the last tease went from post to filing in six days. either way the market front runs it before the sec paper even lands

  2. 847,666 BTC at an average near 75.4k per coin. whatever anyone thinks of the man, that cost basis is going to look absurd in hindsight

  3. orange_pilled_ola

847,666 BTC and he is still posting teasers on a sunday. the man treats buying like a spectator sport at this point

  4. 246 million from selling 1.47M shares to buy 142 million in coins. The premium on MSTR keeps feeding the machine, works until it doesnt

    1. exactly, 246M of stock sold to buy 142M of coins only works while mstr trades at a premium to nav. one sustained discount and the machine jams

      1. discount to nav is the kill switch nobody models. mstr at a 40 percent discount turns the 246m raise machine into a buyback debate overnight

        1. the nav discount cuts both ways. 40 percent off means buybacks are acquiring btc below market, the one scenario where the machine is genuinely bullish

      2. theres a buyback clause for exactly that scenario tho. discount flips the machine from issuing to absorbing, either way the btc leaves the market

  5. u0022More orange than everu0022 might be the least subtle market signal in finance history. And somehow it still works

    1. works because the front run is the trade. by filing day the pop is priced, retail buys the teaser top and hands inventory to the fast money

      1. front running works until it doesnt. one of these sundays the filing lands on a red tape day and the front runners become the exit liquidity

  6. 847,666 btc on a 63.95b basis puts the average buy near 75.4k. the tease is theater, the filing shows whether they added above or below the stack average

    1. 75.4k average buy and they have been adding above 85k for weeks. the stack average is climbing right into the tease cycle

      1. @orange_count climbing average above 85k also means every new filing locks in a worse basis than the last. the flex only works while btc keeps making it look genius

  7. more orange than ever at 847,666 btc. at some point the tease stops being a tease and is just the company heartbeat lol

  8. 847,666 btc and still teasing. the man turned a treasury into a content calendar, every monday is a countdown episode now

  9. 847,666 btc at a 75.4k average and the incremental buys are above 85k now. the dilution math only closes while mstr keeps the premium

  10. Greta Lindqvist

847,666 BTC and the tracker graphic gets more polished every quarter. At this point the tease is the product.
