NEAR at 5.16 USD: Why a 135 Percent Monthly Rally Has the Market Watching 5.50 USD
NEAR, the native token of the NEAR Protocol, has climbed more than 135 percent in 30 days to trade near 5.16 USD, putting the 5.50 to 6.20 USD resistance zone back in focus after buyers defended the latest pullback near 4.70 USD.
CoinGecko data shows NEAR up roughly 7 percent over 24 hours, 12.3 percent over seven days and 135.1 percent over 30 days at the latest reading. Its market capitalization stood near 6.76 billion USD with approximately 1.31 billion tokens circulating. The recovery began around 1.60 USD in August and pushed the token through several former resistance areas; price briefly broke above 5.50 USD in late September before falling to roughly 4.74 USD on Oct. 1, then recovered back above 5 USD.
The Technical Picture Around 5.50 to 6.20 USD
The daily structure remains constructive. Buyers repeatedly defended the 4.70 USD area during the recovery, forming higher intraday lows and reclaiming 5 USD, which keeps the recent breakout structure intact. Resistance sits close, however: NEAR has struggled several times around 5.20 to 5.50 USD, with upper wicks showing sellers entering near recent highs. CoinGecko places the latest seven-day trading range between 4.60 and 5.52 USD.
A clean daily close above 5.50 USD would move price beyond recent local highs, with the next test extending toward roughly 6.20 USD — a level watched by crypto analyst Giannis Andreou, who argues buyers need to reclaim the 5.50 to 6.20 USD area and hold it through a retest before his bullish setup strengthens. His scenario places 8 and 12 USD as later resistance targets if that happens, while a weekly close below 3.80 USD would weaken the setup. Those levels remain an analyst projection, not confirmed targets.
On the downside, 4.70 USD remains the first area to watch. A deeper pullback would bring the 4.00 to 4.30 USD zone into view on the weekly chart, and Andreou places his wider support range between 3.80 and 4.50 USD.
Weekly Momentum Is Stretched
Momentum indicators still favor buyers, though the speed of the rally has pushed several readings to elevated levels. The weekly MACD line sits near 0.745 against a signal line around 0.362, with the positive histogram expanding to approximately 0.384 — upward momentum remains strong after the breakout from the 1.60 to 2.50 USD range.
The weekly RSI is more cautious. At roughly 75.5, the indicator has moved above the traditional 70 overbought threshold and stands well above its moving average near 59.1. An RSI above 70 does not by itself signal an immediate reversal, but it shows the advance has been unusually strong and leaves less room for price to keep climbing at the same pace without consolidation.
Rekt Capital noted NEAR is showing “initial signs” of successfully retesting a long-term downtrend as new support, describing an attempt to enter a new macro uptrend after breaking a multi-year descending trend line. The weekly chart supports that framing: NEAR spent much of 2026 below 2.50 USD before accelerating through 3, 4 and eventually 5 USD, and holding above the former breakout area would preserve the sequence of higher highs and higher lows built during the rally.
Leverage Is Growing With Price
Derivatives activity has risen alongside the spot move. CoinGlass shows NEAR futures open interest at roughly 1.63 billion USD, with 24-hour futures volume around 2.31 billion USD at the latest reading, and approximately 2.57 million USD in leveraged NEAR positions liquidated over the same period. Higher open interest confirms leveraged exposure has grown near the highs, without indicating which direction those positions will push price.
The current level is well above earlier figures in the rally: when Hyperliquid added NEAR spot trading in September, NEAR perpetual open interest on that platform alone stood near 344 million USD while the token traded above 4 USD. Spot flows have been less consistent — CoinGlass data for Oct. 6 showed a net exchange outflow of roughly 1.76 million USD, meaning more NEAR left tracked exchanges than entered.
A Supply-Side Catalyst to Watch
Beyond charts and flows, a protocol-level proposal could tighten NEAR’s tokenomics: a governance plan would cut NEAR’s annual issuance from 2.5 percent to 1.6 percent through the House of Stake mechanism. If adopted, the reduction would lower new supply pressure at the exact moment demand-side activity — from leverage to exchange outflows — is running hot.
For now, the burden of proof sits at 5.50 USD. A monthly gain of 135 percent has already priced in a great deal of good news, and until NEAR can hold above its former ceiling, the rally’s next chapter — toward the 8 to 12 USD scenarios bulls sketch out — remains a hypothesis rather than a trend.
135 percent in 30 days off an August base near 1.60 and NEAR still holds 4.70 on every pullback. Higher intraday lows plus the 5 USD reclaim is textbook, but it already failed at 5.50 once in late September.
buying the 4.70 defense twice is a pattern, third test is where it usually fails. trimming into strength until 5.50 closes on the daily, not before
6.76B market cap on 1.31B circulating tokens. The upper wicks stacking between 5.20 and 5.50 tell you sellers live exactly where the article says. Third touch of that zone usually breaks something.
second vault talk aside, watch the funding strip on this one. oi at 1.63b with price pinned under 5.50 means the leverage is already committed, one flush through 4.70 and it cascades
funding still tame under that oi stack means the leverage is patient, not panicky. its the flush thru 4.70 that turns it into fuel the other way
patient leverage is still leverage. one flush through 4.70 with that oi stack and patient becomes forced in about ten minutes
The Oct 1 dip to 4.74 getting bought in a day is the most bullish detail here. Weak rallies do not recover that fast. Still trimming into 5.50 rather than chasing.
andreou wanting a hold through the 5.50 to 6.20 retest before trusting 8 dollars sets the right bar. the late september rejection at 5.50 still stings
135 percent in a month and my bag from the 2022 top is still underwater lol. great rally, brutal entry price
the 4.70 defense is the actual signal imo, buyers showed up there twice before this push. if that level breaks the whole structure is cooked
NEAR at a 6.76 billion market cap after a 135 percent run is the part nobody wants to discuss. Late cycle pumps on AI agent narratives tend to retrace harder than they climbed.
6.76B after a 135 percent month is rich, but weekly RSI at 75.5 is the louder warning here
The market cap concern is fair, but the House of Stake proposal cutting issuance from 2.5 to 1.6 percent would trim exactly the supply pressure you are worried about.
Every rally retraces, question is whether 5.50 flips to support. I bought near 3 USD in 2023 so my memory of this chart is friendlier than yours.
weekly rsi at 75.5 is the detail here. even if 5.50 flips, sideways grind for weeks is the likelier path than a straight shot to 6.20
sideways grind after a 135 percent month is the healthy outcome nobody wants to hear. add the issuance cut from 2.5 to 1.6 percent and staking sell pressure shrinks while price chops
issuance cut helps but 1.31B circulating still unlocks into any strength. supply schedule matters more than weekly rsi on this one imo
75.5 weekly rsi and people still charting cup and handles lol. sideways until the 1.6 percent issuance cut lands is the best case scenario
sideways is the bull case at 75.5 rsi. a flush through 4.70 with 1.63B oi stacked is the bear one, worth naming before it happens
a 4.70 flush with that oi stack is the refill everyone waiting on 5.50 wants and nobody actually buys. been sitting on a bid at 4.75 since friday, we will see who blinks
bid at 4.75 solidarity. if the 4.70 defense holds a third time those 5.50 upper wicks probably resolve up not down
ai agent narrative is doing heavy lifting here but the oct 1 dip to 4.74 got eaten in a day. weak hands already left imo
1.63B in open interest stacked right under a zone with upper wicks at 5.50. what could possibly go wrong lol
1.63B oi on a 6.76B cap is almost a quarter of the market levered. this resolves violently one way or the other
a quarter of cap in open interest is rinse territory. trimmed at 5.30 and honestly dont care which way it breaks now
1.31B circulating is the real overhang. unlocks do more damage than any resistance zone once a 135 percent month gets expectations this stretched
unlocks are the part no chart accounts for. weekly rsi at 75 with supply scheduled to hit is a bet on buyers showing up on time every month
