A Stock App Quietly Built a Top-5 Crypto Chain: Robinhood Chain Hits 945 Million USD in Daily Trading While Nobody Was Watching

A stock trading app quietly built one of the busiest crypto trading floors in the world — and almost nobody in crypto noticed. Robinhood Chain, a two-month-old network launched by the brokerage best known for commission-free stock trading, processed roughly 945 million USD in daily decentralized exchange volume on Aug. 25, 2026, a new all-time high and nearly double its previous record of 563 million USD set on July 8.

The number matters because of what it measures. Decentralized exchange, or DEX, volume is the total value of token swaps happening directly on a blockchain without a middleman like Coinbase or Binance. A chain built by a stock brokerage now handles more of that activity per day than networks that have been running for years. For regular investors, the signal is simple: the wall between stock apps and crypto markets is disappearing faster than most people realize.

The Hook: A Top-Five Chain in 56 Days

Robinhood Chain opened its public mainnet on July 1, 2026, at the company’s “The World is Flat” keynote in London. The results since then have been, by the standards of crypto networks, absurd:

  • 945 million USD — daily DEX volume record set on Aug. 25, nearly double the prior record of 563 million USD from July 8
  • 47 billion USD — cumulative DEX volume processed in under two months, according to data reported by crypto.news
  • 15 billion USD — 30-day DEX volume, good for fifth place among all chains, behind Solana, BNB Chain, Ethereum and Base
  • 1.4 billion USD — total value locked, up from just 4 million USD in June
  • 324,000 wallets — daily active users at its July peak, briefly topping Base

For perspective, the same report notes that Arbitrum One’s 30-day DEX volume during the same period was roughly one-quarter of Robinhood Chain’s figure. Robinhood Chain is built on Arbitrum’s technology — meaning the fork is currently running about four times the trading volume of the chain it forked from.

On-Chain Evidence: What Is Actually Trading

The Aug. 25 record was not one product going viral. Three different kinds of activity piled up on the same day, and each one tells you something about where retail money is heading.

First, memecoins. A token called Pons, launched through the chain’s token launchpad, at its peak accounted for roughly half of all DEX volume on the network. On Aug. 30, Pons alone drove 445 million USD of the chain’s 874.8 million USD in daily volume. An earlier breakout memecoin, CASHCAT, had hit a 156 million USD market cap before Pons overtook it. This is classic speculation — the kind that evaporates fast.

Second, tokenized stocks. Robinhood offers ERC-20 tokens that track stocks like NVIDIA, Apple, GameStop and SpaceX, tradeable around the clock in more than 120 countries. By Aug. 21, cumulative tokenized stock volume through Uniswap on the chain had passed 1 billion USD, with heavy concentration in a tokenized Nasdaq-100 tracker. These tokens give economic exposure rather than legal ownership of shares — think of them as a receipt that follows the stock’s price, not the stock itself.

Third, leveraged trading. A platform called Arcus launched “pTokens” on Aug. 25 — transferable tokens wrapping leveraged perpetual trading accounts, including 3x leveraged Bitcoin and Robinhood positions. It also began accepting tokenized stock collateral at a 50 percent loan-to-value ratio, effectively letting traders borrow against their stock exposure to speculate in crypto. No other chain currently offers that bridge.

The Core Conflict: Free Gas Has an Expiration Date

Here is the catch that every investor should understand. Robinhood Chain is currently running a 90-day gas subsidy — meaning the company pays users’ transaction fees — which runs out at the end of September 2026. Transaction fees, or “gas,” are the small payments networks charge to process trades. When the subsidy ends, users pay their own way for the first time.

The macro backdrop also flattered the numbers. The Aug. 25 spike coincided with a broad market rally, with Bitcoin nearing 81,500 USD after a record 2.7 billion USD wave of short liquidations and Ether gaining nearly 29 percent in a single week, as crypto.news reported. A zero-fee environment made Robinhood Chain the path of least resistance for traders rotating quickly between assets. Whether that volume survives once fees kick in — and once the rally cools — is the open question.

The stablecoin layer adds another signal. Stablecoin market capitalization on the chain reached 640 million USD by late August, with Ethena’s USDe accounting for the bulk of inflows, and a lending product called Robinhood Earn offers an estimated 7 percent yield on the USDG stablecoin.

Market Implications: What This Means for You

You do not need to trade on Robinhood Chain for this story to matter to your portfolio. Three takeaways stand out:

  • Altcoin competition is entering a new phase. The biggest threat to existing Layer 2 networks may not be another crypto startup — it may be a stock brokerage with tens of millions of existing customers and no need to win them over.
  • Volume records built on memecoins are fragile. When a single token can drive half of a chain’s activity, headline numbers can fall just as fast as they rose.
  • The tokenized stock race is accelerating. Robinhood Chain passing 1 billion USD in tokenized equity volume strengthens the case that 24/7 stock trading on blockchains is becoming a mainstream product, not an experiment.

The Verdict

Robinhood Chain’s rise from 4 million USD to 1.4 billion USD in locked value in under three months is the fastest launch trajectory any Ethereum Layer 2 has posted at this stage of its life. But the numbers come with an asterisk: subsidized fees, a memecoin-heavy mix, and a macro tailwind. The real test arrives in October, when traders start paying their own way. Watch whether volume holds — that will tell you whether this was genuine demand or a very well-funded promotion.

  1. 945M daily DEX volume in month two from a stock brokerage. Every L1 that spent years on incentives just got lapped by an app your cousin uses for options.

    1. the incentive part is what stings. every L2 paying millions in airdrop farming for volume that robinhood got for free by already having a login button

      1. and the airdrop farmers farmed and dumped. robinhood volume comes from people trading, not people grinding wallet connect quests. different animal

        1. the airdrop farmers dumped and left, robinhood traders come back tuesday. retention is the whole difference and nobody wants to admit it

          1. this. farmers optimize for the dump, traders come back because the app already holds their stock account. retention by default

    2. @dexdesk_ravi distribution was always the whole game. Robinhood already had tens of millions of funded accounts, they just flipped a switch.

    3. 945M daily in month two with zero incentive spend is the loudest number in the piece. L1s paid billions for a fraction of that and kept the farmers

    4. the cousin angle is the whole moat. every L1 paid dearly for users, robinhoods users were already kyc’d with money wired in

    5. every L1 burned millions on incentive farms for a fraction of that volume. robinhood just plugged in users who already existed

      1. and the L1 answer will be airdrop season 2 like that fixes anything. you cant farm your way past an app with 20m funded accounts

  2. Doubling your own record from 563M in under two months is the part people should focus on. That growth curve does not look like a fluke.

    1. Growth curve looks clean until the brokerage deprioritizes crypto again the way it did in 2022. Owned distribution cuts both ways.

      1. the 2022 precedent is the whole argument. 945M a day means nothing if one bad quarter makes the brokerage shuffle crypto back into the hobby drawer

        1. 2022 deprioritization happened because trading revenue collapsed with the volume. crypto now routes their own order flow, theyd be shutting off their own pipeline

      2. Renee the 2022 deprioritization fear made sense back when crypto was a side quest. 945M daily makes it a revenue line now, harder to shelve quietly

        1. revenue line cuts both ways tho. one slow quarter and crypto is the first item on the chopping block, chain or no chain

          1. except the chopping block argument dies when the chain IS the order flow. cutting crypto now means turning off their own 945M a day pipe

  3. 945M a day with no token incentive is the cleanest datapoint that real users beat farmed volume. every L2 marketing team should print this article and weep

  4. Quietly is doing a lot of work in that headline. No token, no incentive farm, just plumbing moving real volume. Weird feeling admitting a brokerage built decent crypto infra.

    1. nearly double the july 8 record of 563M and zero hype threads about it. attention and money clearly live in different places now

    1. no token no incentives is the part that ends every chain wars argument. half the top 10 is still paying for volume and calling it adoption

    2. pekka gets it. 945M daily with no token to farm means the volume itself is the product. chains paying points for tvl are just buying a screenshot
