Bitcoin Stalls at Its 50-Day Ceiling as Morgan Stanley Says the Correction Is Mostly Over

Bitcoin steadied near 80,443 USD on Wednesday after an early rally stalled just below a key technical ceiling, as Wall Street’s top strategists signaled that the painful four-month correction in risk assets may finally be running out of steam.

The Hook: A Rebound With One Hand Braked

Bitcoin pushed as high as 81,687 USD during Wednesday trading before sellers knocked it back, according to data from TradingView cited by Cointelegraph. The reversal left the largest cryptocurrency hovering in the low 80,000 USD region, down roughly 0.3 percent on the day, as markets held their breath ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s interest-rate decision.

The pause matters because Bitcoin bumped directly into its 50-day simple moving average, a popular trend indicator that currently sits near 81,831 USD. Think of it as a ceiling that traders watch closely: when price approaches from below, those who bought earlier often take profits there, and those who doubt the rally place sell orders. On Wednesday, that ceiling held firm.

At the same time, one of Wall Street’s most closely followed voices offered encouragement. Mike Wilson, chief US equity strategist at Morgan Stanley, told CNBC on Tuesday that he believes the broad market sell-off that began months ago has largely done its damage. “Most of the correction is already over. We’ve been in correction mode for four or five months… the market I think has digested this very efficiently,” Wilson said.

On-Chain Evidence: Where the Buyers Are Waiting

Underneath the price chart, on-chain data firms are mapping exactly where large buy orders are stacked. Analytics platform Glassnode, in its latest weekly newsletter, noted a telling shift in exchange order books: the thick wall of buy liquidity that once sat at 80,000 USD has migrated lower.

  • Thin support at 80,000 USD — Glassnode reports only about 3.4 million USD in resting buy orders remains at that level.
  • Thicker defense at 78,000 to 79,000 USD — orders there now total roughly 42 million USD, up from about 24 million USD in mid-October, making it the largest block of bids near current price.
  • Momentum test at 80,565 USD — Keith Alan, co-founder of trading platform Material Indicators, warned that a four-hour close below this level would reduce the odds of Bitcoin retesting its 50-day moving average overhead.

In plain terms: if Bitcoin dips, the biggest cushion of buyers is now parked one to two thousand dollars lower than before. That is where a bounce would most likely be caught if selling accelerates.

The Core Conflict: Fed Caution Versus a Global Risk Rally

Wednesday’s standoff between buyers and sellers has a clear backdrop. Markets overwhelmingly expect the Federal Reserve to hold its policy rate in the current 3.75 to 4 percent range at the meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee. Pricing from CME Group’s FedWatch Tool put the odds of a pause at about 90.6 percent, with attention instead fixed on the press conference from Fed chair Kevin Warsh and any hints about a possible quarter-point hike priced for December.

Meanwhile, global risk appetite showed signs of life elsewhere. South Korea’s KOSPI Composite Index surged 6.6 percent on Wednesday, its best daily gain since July, reclaiming the 6,000-point level for the first time since mid-October and bringing its week-to-date gain to 9.3 percent. US equities were flatter, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq having closed up 1.1 percent on Tuesday ahead of major earnings from Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon and Intel.

Alan of Material Indicators added a political wrinkle: with US midterm elections landing on November 3, between Wednesday’s Fed meeting and the December gathering, markets may have priced in steady rates but not the election outcome itself. That unpriced uncertainty is one reason traders are reluctant to chase Bitcoin higher just yet.

Market Implications: Two Maps for the Road Ahead

Analysts remain split on what happens next, and the disagreement itself is informative. Crypto trader and analyst Rekt Capital noted that Bitcoin’s weekly chart still resembles the structure of the 2022 bear market, with the pair yet to escape a broader accumulation pattern stretching between roughly 60,000 USD and 80,000 USD. On that map, Bitcoin remains range-bound until it decisively breaks above resistance near 82,000 USD.

The Wall Street view is more constructive. If Wilson is right that the correction in risk assets is mostly finished, the macro headwind that has pressured Bitcoin for months could ease, opening the door for a sustained push above the 50-day average and toward the mid-80,000 USD area. Data analyst Charl van Zyl pointed out that even after a nearly 10 percent two-day bounce, the Nasdaq remains well below its June record, implying room for recovery if earnings cooperate.

For everyday investors, the practical takeaway is a defined battlefield: buyers clustered in the high 70,000s, sellers guarding the low 80,000s, and a Federal Reserve decision plus a wave of tech earnings acting as the referee.

The Verdict: Patience Over Prediction

Wednesday’s rejection at the 50-day moving average is not a crash signal, it is a waiting room. The combination of a near-certain rate hold, a resilient global tech rally, and thickening buy-side liquidity below the market sketches a constructive but cautious picture. Investors with a longer horizon may see the churn between 78,000 USD and 82,000 USD as noise inside a larger pattern; shorter-term traders will watch the 80,565 USD level Alan flagged as the tripwire for the next move.

The most honest summary comes from the strategists themselves: the bulk of the pain may be over, but nobody — not Morgan Stanley, not Glassnode, not the Fed — knows what the midterm elections will do to markets in six days. Size positions accordingly.

  1. 81,687 rejection right at the 50-day and somehow this is the bullish setup everyone wanted. need a close above 81,831 or it’s just another lower high

    1. two taps on the 50d isn’t a confirmed rejection until the second one closes below the prior swing. but agreed, without a close above 81,831 every bounce is just inventory for sellers. fed decides which

  2. Morgan Stanley calling the correction mostly over, from the same desks that were bullish at 100k. fundamentals might be fine but their timing is cursed

    1. 0.3% down day and people are writing essays. chop around 80k until the fed speaks, then we find out who was positioned right

  3. bumping the 50-day near 81,831 twice with no breakout, plus bids migrating down to 78-79k. market telling you where it actually wants to trade

  4. Morgan Stanley calling the correction mostly over feels premature. Bid support at 80k is down to 3.4 million dollars, that is barely a speed bump.

    1. Wilson’s call is about equities though, people keep pasting it onto BTC. bid depth matters more here, and if the 78-79k zone holds, the correction-mostly-over read is at least directionally right

    2. 3.4M at 80k vs 42M at 78-79k, the bid wall moved, it didnt vanish. thats a market bracing for a flush into support, not one with no floor

    3. right, the real defense is 42M stacked at 78-79k, up from 24M in mid october. if a 4h close loses 80,565 like keith alan flagged, thats the next stop
