Trend-following methodology: 50d/200d MA crossover + RSI filter + ADX regime gate
Data via Yahoo Finance / CoinGecko · Not financial advice. For educational purposes only.
the backtest lost 22% while buy and hold did +31.7% and the verdict is still BUY with high conviction lol. i love these things
50d/200d crossovers will whipsaw on anything with 8% daily ATR. 49 trades at a 51% win rate is a coin flip after fees
coin flip after fees is generous, 49 trades cannot even tell you the sign of the edge. the RSI 61 read is the only number with a real sample behind it, which is to say barely
The 49-trade sample is honest at least. Most analysis pieces never publish a backtest that lost 22 percent to buy and hold while still stamping BUY on the cover.
grizz the whole point is the DCA table not the signal backtest, nobody sane trades 50d/200d crosses on an 8% ATR alt
counterpoint: strip out the DCA table and this is just a momentum call with extra steps. the entry ladder is the whole edge, the 50d/200d part is decoration
the 22% backtest vs +31.7% buy-and-hold while still printing BUY at high conviction is my favorite genre. 51% win rate on 49 trades is literally noise. the dca table is doing all the work here and everyone knows it
agreed, the ladder and the 0.57 line are the strategy and the crossover is decoration. 51 percent wins over 49 trades is a coin flip wearing a suit, the dca table is the only row with teeth
49 trades at 51 percent is a rounding error from a coin flip and the dca table quietly carries the whole thesis. at least the backtest got published, most of these pieces hide it
0.78 entry with the 3.15 high behind you means half the move already voted. im taking fills 1 through 4 only and sitting on hands until 0.57 proves itself
dca with 12 buys doing +50% vs lump sum at +25% is the only row here id actually follow. rest is noise
agreed on the DCA part. 0.57 support holding with RSI at 61 gives the 1.00 target room, but a 0.65 stop on something that moves 8% a day feels tight
A 0.65 stop gets eaten by one red candle on ETHFI. Wider stop, smaller size, same 1.00 thesis
this. ETHFI swept the 0.60 to 0.66 zone twice in september alone, a 0.65 stop is just donating to the wick
september swept that 0.60 to 0.66 zone twice and people still run stops inside it. under the wick or nowhere, 0.57 is the only line that mattered
two sweeps of 0.60 to 0.66 in september alone and the stop still lands inside the zone at 0.65. either under the wick at 0.57 or accept you are donating entries to the market
12 buys at +50% sounds great until you remember it means sitting through every 8% drawdown with dry powder left. most people cave by buy 4
caved at buy 4 on one of these ladders in march lmao. the thing only works if you pre-commit all 12, otherwise its just dip buying with extra guilt
precommitting is easy until fill 9 prints on a red day and your brain invents a reason the thesis changed. i write the 12 fill rule down before entry now, precisely because of march
caved at buy 3 on a ladder like this in may, then watched fills 8 through 12 print without me. the 0.57 retest crowd is either patient or lying
12 buys at +50% sounds disciplined on paper but on an 8% ATR alt you will watch half your ladder sit unfilled for weeks. i would run 6 fills max and keep the rest for a 0.57 retest
6 fills and keeping powder for the 0.57 retest is the version that survives contact. 0.78 vs a 3.15 high means the market already voted once – no shame in letting it prove 0.57 holds before finishing the ladder
12 buys at +50 vs lump sum at +25 is the only row i would follow. it holds up until fills 8 through 12 are bleeding and you are holding hopium for the 0.57 retest like everyone else
high conviction BUY on an 8 percent atr alt with a stop 17 percent away is a coin flip with a thesis attached. the ladder is fine, the conviction label is doing theater
0.78 against a 3.15 high with a 1.00 target is a 28 percent round trip on an alt that swept 0.60 twice last month. sizing matters more than the verdict label here
