NFT Sales Fall 23 Percent to 40.9 Million USD as Panini Jumps 557 Percent and Courtyard Holds the Crown

NFT sales fell 23.48 percent to 40.88 million USD over the seven days ending October 3, according to CryptoSlam — but the headline number hides the most interesting story of the week: a sports collectibles giant exploding up the rankings while nearly every other measure of market activity moved in the opposite direction of the dollar total.

More participants, less volume

Buyer addresses rose 28.79 percent to 206,788, seller addresses climbed 31.99 percent to 197,297, and transactions increased 8.44 percent to 863,295. The previous week’s sales totaled roughly 53.42 million USD, meaning recorded volume fell by about 12.54 million USD — yet more people traded more often. Based on total sales divided by transactions, the average recorded sale was approximately 47.35 USD, a figure that tells you where the market’s center of gravity now sits: small-ticket, high-frequency trading rather than whale-driven speculation.

The macro backdrop was calm, with CoinGecko listing Bitcoin near 84,638 USD, Ethereum at approximately 2,676 USD and the total crypto market capitalization at roughly 2.98 trillion USD when checked on October 3.

Ethereum leads despite a 42 percent slide

Ethereum retained first place among blockchains with 17.08 million USD in NFT sales, down 42.01 percent for the week. The network accounted for about 41.8 percent of the global total, and its buyer count actually increased 57.75 percent to 30,041 — again, far more participants chasing far fewer dollars.

Ethereum’s wash-trading volume fell 15.40 percent to 908,894 USD, bringing its combined total to approximately 17.99 million USD.

Polygon ranked second with 8.21 million USD in sales, up 12.89 percent, on 47,606 buyer addresses. Notably, Polygon’s separately recorded wash trading reached 22.98 million USD — up 22.44 percent and exceeding its organic sales volume, for a combined total of 31.19 million USD.

Bitcoin placed third with 3.83 million USD, down 25.56 percent, though buyer addresses rose 30.73 percent to 10,377. Base followed at 2.25 million USD (down 21.98 percent), BNB Chain at 2.16 million USD (down 18.97 percent), Immutable at 2.12 million USD (down 12.73 percent) and Solana seventh at 1.95 million USD, up 1.96 percent.

Panini’s 557 percent surge

The week’s outlier was Panini, the sports trading card giant, which jumped 557.53 percent to 1.87 million USD in sales — enough to rank eighth among blockchains in CryptoSlam’s table. Its transaction count surged 67.90 percent to 20,622, with 743 buyer addresses, up 18.88 percent.

As a collection, Panini America took fourth place with the same 1.87 million USD, ahead of far more crypto-native names. The surge is a reminder that the strongest current narrative in NFTs is not art or profile pictures but physical-backed collectibles — trading cards, vaulted assets, and licensed sports memorabilia with real-world redemption.

Courtyard keeps the crown

Courtyard led all collections with 7.31 million USD on Polygon, up 15.11 percent, recording 125,802 transactions across 19,288 buyer addresses. The collection accounted for approximately 17.9 percent of global NFT sales and a striking 89 percent of Polygon’s recorded volume. Courtyard’s digital collectibles represent physical assets held in custody — vaulted cards stored in the United States and redeemable worldwide — linking its onchain trading directly to physical collectibles in a US vault.

Ethereum’s Credits ranked second with 2.22 million USD, down 56.92 percent across all metrics. CryptoPunks placed third with 1.97 million USD, a 76.09 percent decline, on just 21 transactions. Bitcoin’s ATMC BRC-20 NFTs took fifth at 1.21 million USD, up 36.25 percent, followed by Guild of Guardians Heroes at 1.05 million USD and Ethereum’s Argonauts at 1.04 million USD. Pudgy Penguins posted 751,027 USD, up 3.48 percent.

Whales still set the records

CryptoSlam’s individual sales rankings showed Ethereum accounting for all five largest transactions of the week. A Beeple Special Edition led at 436,153.94 USD, paid in USDC, followed by Known Origin at 205,028.02 USD. Two CryptoPunks — numbers 1824 and 6489 — sold for 45.5 and 45 ETH respectively, at 121,814.48 and 121,290.66 USD, with WrappedSuperRare rounding out the top five at 111,709.48 USD.

What the week tells us

The divergence between falling dollar volume and rising participation continued a pattern that has defined the NFT market for months: the speculative froth is gone, but the user base is broader than ever. With average sales near 47 USD and physical-backed collections like Courtyard and Panini dominating the rankings, the market that remains looks less like the 2021 mania and more like a functioning collectibles economy — smaller headlines, more activity, and real-world assets doing the heavy lifting.

  1. 557 percent panini pump in a week where everything else bled. sports cards ate this cycle and the jpeg crowd still hasnt accepted it

  2. average sale of 47 bucks and 206k buyers. the NFT market is now basically a sports card shop, and honestly panini pumping 557% proves it

  3. average sale of 47 bucks tells you everything. sports card crowd on Courtyard and Panini trading slabs like micro lots. the NFT market died, digital collectibles are doing fine

    1. calling it dead while buyers climbed 28 percent is wild. the floor dropped, the market just traded down to where actual demand lives

  4. Volume down 23% while buyers, sellers AND transactions all up? That’s not a crash, that’s just the floor coming in from under the JPEG era.

    1. agree on rotation Greta, but 863k transactions at a 47 dollar average also means the whales stepped back. retail is the market now

      1. retail being the market at a 47 dollar average is healthier than three whales flooring a bored ape. whales come back if the sports slabs keep this volume
