In a post on X on September 28, Ronin described the Dragon Rings as “Calamity’s Founders NFT collection,” noting that each Ring unlocks exclusive onchain and in-game benefits for holders, “including boosts inside Calamity,” and pointing users to the collection’s page on Ronin Market. The post did not specify what the boosts are or how large they will be, leaving holders to interpret the scope of the perks for now.
Burned Artifacts, reborn as Rings
The Dragon Rings have an unusual origin story that tracks Calamity’s own journey between blockchains. The studio originally issued Artifact NFTs on Coinbase’s Base network. When Treasure, the gaming ecosystem Calamity previously called home, changed its strategy and stopped supporting third-party games, Calamity Studios left the platform and moved to Ronin.
The migration started with the NFTs. From April 28, anyone holding one of Calamity’s Artifact NFTs could migrate it: the player burned the Artifact in a migration interface, and a matching Dragon Ring landed directly in their connected Ronin wallet. There was no separate claim transaction. Every Artifact was destroyed on Base when its owner received a Ring, meaning the original supply is gone and the Rings now circulating on Ronin Market represent the collection in its entirety.
Calamity frames the Rings as legacy items for early contributors and long-time players. Beyond their cosmetic value, they are designed to open staking and future reward paths in the game’s WYRM token economy. The studio has been careful to position them as perks rather than pay-to-win instruments, noting they are not a substitute for the gear and skill progression players earn by actually playing.
The market mechanics
On Ronin Market, the Rings trade as standard ERC-721 tokens under contract 0x58fac88b5899fd894fb7153d3c8a12db05333ac5, and they carry a 4.25 percent creator fee on secondary sales. Each Ring carries visible traits such as Gem Color and Type, with Blue listed among the gem colors and Zephyr among the types, giving collectors the familiar rarity-scoring dynamics of profile-picture-era collections.
This is not the first time a Dragon Ring has changed hands as a prize. In September 2025, Ronin sent a Dragon Ring NFT to the winner of a Calamity wishlist contest, teasing at the time that more reward mechanisms were coming for supporters of games on the network. The new Founders designation formalizes what had already been an informal status symbol within the game’s community.
Factories and the WYRM economy
The Rings are not the only NFTs in Calamity’s economy. The studio has also announced Factory NFTs, a set of 9,999 player-owned production spaces linked to the WYRM token. According to the studio’s announcements, each Tier 1 Factory holder can earn a total of up to 5,500 WYRM from airdrops and staking, giving the collection a yield dimension that the Rings themselves only touch on through their future staking paths.
Since moving to Ronin, Calamity has rebuilt its infrastructure around the migration. The work brought upgrades for Artifact-based NFTs and smart-contract-backed rewards, with the rollout planned across several seasons rather than a single cutover.
The game behind the tokens
Calamity itself is a real-time 2D action MMORPG currently in open beta. The game is free to play, and players do not need a wallet or any NFTs to start, a deliberately web2-friendly onboarding choice. It offers three classes, more than 40 skills, and 30 customizable stats, with over 150 items players can loot, trade, or equip. The core gameplay loop is built around dungeon raids, survival challenges, and open trading, and guild content has expanded since the open beta launched, making coordinated dungeon clears and resource sharing more central to the experience.
Earlier in 2025, the studio completed its Play-to-Airdrop campaigns, which rewarded players who took part in dungeon runs and beta progression events. The Dragon Rings’ Founders status is, in effect, the continuation of that reward-the-early-community philosophy, translated into a tradeable asset on Ronin.
Why it matters
The NFT market has spent much of the past year searching for use cases beyond speculation, and gaming utility remains the most credible candidate. Ronin’s decision to spotlight a collection with genuine in-game function, tied to a game that does not require token ownership to play, is a template for how gaming chains are trying to bridge mainstream players and onchain economies. Whether the promised boosts deliver meaningful value will determine if the Rings become a model or a footnote.
As of press time, Bitcoin trades at 83,206 USD, Ethereum at 2,674.18 USD, and Solana at 117.70 USD, according to a CoinGecko snapshot from September 28.
calamity going from stranded on treasure to founders collection on ronin in under a year is the kind of comeback this space rarely gets right
the WYRM staking angle is the only reason I even looked at these. cosmetic rings that later feed reward paths beat a plain jpeg drop any day
calamity burned artifacts on base and reissued on ronin, migrations this clean should be the template. treasure losing games is ronins gain
burned artifacts coming back as rings with gem traits is actually a classy way to honor the old collection instead of just refunding everyone
burned my Artifacts on Base and got the Ring, whole migration took maybe 10 minutes. smoothest chain hop ive done after the Treasure mess
Blue gem Zephyr checking in, migration off Base took me one tx too. after the Treasure mess last year this is night and day
same, my burn went through in one transaction, zero hiccups. only gripe is the 4.25 percent creator fee on every resale, kinda steep once supply is already burned down
4.25 percent on every resale is rough when the burn already cut supply. secondary market is gonna feel that fee on day one
4.25 stings but its what funds an actual live game. rather pay resale fees on a running title than trade free on a graveyard marketplace
4.25 on resales funds the boosts tho, same money circles back to holders. plain jpeg collections keep the fee and you get nothing back ever
fee recycling into boosts is underrated. most collections just extract forever, at least this one loops value back to holders
4.25 recycling into boosts beats a royalty that only funds the team wallet, true. still want actual numbers before calling it holder friendly
it says the rings unlock boosts inside Calamity but nobody will say what the boosts actually are. holders basically paid gas for a mystery box lol
paid gas for a mystery box is exactly it. ronin posting boosts tbd like thats fine, founders holders deserve actual numbers
counterpoint to the mystery box thing: they straight up said the rings arent pay-to-win. my bet is cosmetic or minor xp boosts at most, if it was a real stat advantage the playerbase would riot
fair point, but vague perks still move floors. buyers are pricing in the best case scenario and the devs know it
pricing in the best case is exactly it. ronin market is thin enough that two whale listings reset the floor, boosts or no boosts
the X post says rings unlock boosts but never says what the boosts actually are. kinda important detail to leave out before people buy on Ronin Market
every founders collection plays it this way, vague perks now, patch notes after sell out. Zephyr type at least looks cool
mystery boosts before a market listing is preorder psychology. at least the burn step capped how many rings exist, supply side is honest
the interesting part is the WYRM staking angle. founders collections that gate future reward paths tend to hold floor better than pure cosmetics, early Ronin crates proved that already
treasure walking away from third party games stranded a lot of studios. calamity landing the founders slot on ronin is the rare clean landing from that mess
Treasure dropping third party games stranded a bunch of studios last year. Calamity landing on Ronin AND getting the Founders NFT slot is about the cleanest exit from that situation possible
^ ronin scooping up orphaned game studios is basically their whole pipeline strategy now. worked before, no reason it stops working with calamity
burned my artifacts back in april and the migration itself was painless, one tx. whatever the boosts end up being, the shipping part already worked
